Project Lift - 2012 G550 on 34 inch tires
Figured I'd do a thread on my G Wagon lift project. Ordered the following parts:
Complete parts.
Springs and shocks
- Thor Springs from Viking Offroad
- Fox 2.0 Performance Shocks to match
- Extended braided brake and locker lines (ordered from ORC)
- ORC rear stabilizer bar kit
- GFG front panhard bar for 50mm lift
- Front wheel caster correction bushings
- H&R 50mm wheel spacers
Complete parts.
Springs and shocks

The Fox shocks were recommended by Viking Offroad as the next best alternative to the hugely expensive (3x more) Ohlins from Sweden, which are limited supply and have wait times up to 4-6 months it seems.
Thor springs are soft, and give the G a 50mm lift in the rear (progressive springs), and a higher 70mm lift in the front (non-progressive springs).

My goal was at least a 34 inch tire size, on my older G55 9.5 inch wide rims. I wanted to make sure there was no rubbing, so I stayed conservative with BFG KO2s sized at 305/65-18.
Installation has been good, with good results.

We're about 85% there now, finishing up on the rear stabilizer bar kit and the front caster correction bushings.
Results are great, a big improvement over the factory look, much better proportioned in my opinion with the lift.
Here's the BEFORE look:

And here's the AFTER look:
As well as lift the truck, the Thor springs are designed to level out the overall stance.

Next up will be the wider AMG fender flares (11cm front, 10cm rear) and rocker panel/rock sliders (brand TBD). I'll probably also get rid of the chrome look by powdercoating the front brush guard and skirt guard, to match whatever rock sliders I decide on.
Down the road: under armor protection, steel diff covers, roof rack, offroad lights.
Cheers!

you had similar findings to what I had. The Thor Springs will settle a little, but give you quite a bit of lift. I am also running 1" spacers on top of the springs. I haven't done a different front panhard bar yet...we were going to but in measurement the shift was negligible after settling and the shop is confident I am fine. Even with caster correction, my 35x12.5s and wheel spacers still cause some wandering and lack of self centering (I also have a King steering shock).
I went with the Thor wheel spacers at 1.25" and would not recommend it. While the convenience of going to studs from bolts is nice, they rusted to hell immediately and they ship with open ended nuts. Good luck finding closed ended nuts to fit a G...
Keep me in the loop on the rock sliders..I can't find a set I like. I am doing a similar path to you-skid plates all underneath, new rear bumper so I can carry a 35" spare, and calling it a day. I think you'll be happy with the springs. I love the ride and would imagine the Fox aren't tooo different from the King shocks

Thanks, yes, the Fox shocks seem to work well especially on the softer settings. Viking recommended Fox more for majority street driving, while the Kings perform a little better offroad (according to them). Pretty similar in all regards anyway.
ORC rock sliders are nice, but you do pay for them... seem pretty solid.
Another alternative I'm looking at is a company called Desert-Service. Their rocker panel/rock sliders are considerably cheaper and made out of aluminum. But they seem good, and have the black steel plate finish. May consider those.

Nice! Rig looks sweet. Where did you get the front wheel caster correction bushings?

I believe gwagenparts has some in stock, but I got mine from Titus Pullo Suspension in Canada. You can Google them, and he also hangs out on the Expedition Portal board.

Can I ask how much they set you back?

I didn't realize H&R made a 50mm spacers for the W463? They only used to offer 30mm which I recall. I now see up from 15-50mm! Looks great, I sent you a PM

Yeah, they do 50mm and I think even 60mm wheel spacers. Not sure on the part #, Viking Offroad ordered them for me. However, with my wheel/tire combo I could have stuck to 30mm spacers, not even close to rubbing now.
Also, got the G63 fender flares on, here's the before picture:

I have a 2011 G55 and am about to also do the Thor/Fox lift and put 305/55/20 on 9.5" wide 20" wheels with +50 offset. I was wondering if you or anyone has had any ESP or ABS issues doing this set up with the late model G55? I am doing this install on Tuesday or Wed this coming week ( July 3/4)
