2023 G550
321 AMG Line Exhaust

I placed my order for a 2019 G550 with my dealer about 2 weeks ago. So, looking at my build sheets from my dealer, under option “321 AMG Line,” it lists the 4 specific options that are included in the 321 package. Option K69, which is “AMG Sport Exhaust,” is one of the 4 items included in the AMG Line package.

Does anyone know what this K69 actually is? Will it have the 2 chrome horizontal side pipes on both sides of the vehicle, just ahead of the rear wheel, as it would with the real AMG G63?

I’m asking because thus far, I have not seen a 2019 G550 equipped with the AMG Line. I have only seen pictures or videos of either G550’s, or full blown AMG G63’s.

BTW, I would have gone with a G63, but my G550 is very loaded as is, with a grand total list MSRP of $149,215 (no second sticker). Tack on the 7/100 EFW, plus 7 years of A and B service, then add 10.2% WSST to that, and I’ll be sucking on an out-the-door Grand Total of nearly $181k. I have no intention to add a $25k second sticker to this, plus another $25k for the G63 model, and bring G63 total to $236k.

A guy has to stop at some point!

Thanks for any help on the AMG Line K69 “AMG Sport Exhaust.”

both of the cars in this video are AMG line 2019 G550s, the silver one also has night package.

K69 has no side-pipe tips. The exhaust is somewhat louder than standard.

I suspect most of the G550s that you have seen online have been equipped with the AMG Package. The easiest way to identify the package is the 14 spoke S class style wheels. I’ll find out how loud the exhaust is Monday evening.

Also, how much did the 7/100 warranty and 7 yrs of maintenance each end up costing you? My dealer offered up $6,050 for the 6yr/75k warranty and $2,890 for the 4yr/40k service. I’m pretty sure I can find better pricing (link below). Unfortunately, I first need to decide how long I want to keep my G, which might take a few weeks of ownership to decide.

Thanks, and great point, Bob! It's funny, because I had previously watched that video a few times before, but never tripped to the fact both G's were AMG Liners, given those wheels.

So, just curious, how do you know K69 is louder than stock? Have you seen a video where you can essentially compare the exhaust notes of 2 G's, one with the other without, K69 option?

Going by memory, I think my dealer said the longest A/B service is something around $5k, and the 7/100 EFW an additional $8k, so $13k for both. He always advises his clients to plan to add about 10% to the vehicle's MSRP for the maximum length EFW and A/B service, and expect to be pleasantly surprised when it comes in under this figure. In my case, 10% of $149k MSRP is almost $15k, so I'm "under" by $2k. I don't think he is being smug or anything, but rather he doesn't want his clients to show up 8 months later when their 2019 G finally shows up at the dealership, and sh*t a brick when faced with an additional large cost they had not anticipated being this much. To this extent, I totally agree with him. I'm prepared for the realistic bottom line, well ahead of June 2019, having ordered my G550 2 weeks ago. When I write my check for this baby, the amount will include this. No last minute surprises.

I bet you must be super excited for tomorrow night to finally arrive!

Would you please let us know how the K69 exhaust note sounds, after you have had some quality time with your new bad boy?

I'm also really curious if K69 provides the same G63 button on the center console, allowing you to manually select on-the-fly either the default exhaust note vs/ whatever the loud rumbling mode is that G63 pipes emit.

Personally, my guess is K69 performance will not be nearly as noticeable as they are with the G63. As I understand it, the G63 actually changes certain configuration aspects of its exhaust system, on-the-fly, and/or it changes the engine's computer controlled management system (e.g., software change to engine programs), as the driver hits the button, thus changing either the exhaust system and/or engine tuning, affecting the exhaust note and sound levels. I can't imagine for the relatively small cost of AMG Line ($3470) that would be enough doe to provide for such sophistication. But, hopefully I'm wrong!

The AMG Sport Exhaust is louder and does not (at least in Europe) have a control button on the console. That said, it seems louder again when the car is in Sport mode (noticably more crackles etc) , I do not know if the same applies for the G550 without AMG package.

I know, old thread but does anyone know if the G63 mufflers with tips can be bolted on a G550 (both 2020 models)? I would think it is possible as long as the input to the mufflers is the same, but if not I will have to get my shop to cut off the G63 tips and weld them to custom piping off the G550 mufflers. I searched this forum first and could not find the answer, which surprised me since I would have thought someone has tried it before.

I just looked at the parts diagrams for each and it appears that from the Converter and Pipe part they are the same, except for some of the hangers...should have looked at those before posting. Otherwise, does anyone know if the Sport Exhaust option (K69) on the 2019+ G550s has a different muffler from the G550 without that option? I could not determine that from the parts diagrams albeit I could only find one for the G550. If they are the same what makes it a "Sport Exhaust"?

From what I understand, all the sport exhaust does is add the valves that open and close (can be controlled
by the button below. If you do not have the sport exhaust, you do not have this button. I don't believe the mufflers are any different but not 100% certain.

Thanks but the G550 does not have a button like the G63 does, with or without the Sport Exhaust option, so that is why I am curious as to if there are different mufflers for G550s with the Sport Exhaust and for G550s without.

That's news to me. I have never seen an MB with the "sport exhaust" option without that button. I've had both a CLA and a C43
and both when optioned with the sport exhaust have that button. You 100% certain. Doesn't matter to me, I always override the
valves with an ASR module anyways.

Positive. I test drove a couple G550s with and without the Sport Exhaust and neither have a button. The one that has the Sport Exhaust gets louder when put in Sport mode and has actuators on the mufflers so I guess that is what controls the flaps - maybe the one with the Sport Exhaust does not have actuators (?).

So what does one get when the Sport Exhaust is optioned? There must be a difference somewhere compared to the ones that do not have the Sport Exhaust, right?

G class
From what we could tell the flaps in the exhaust behave slightly differently. Probably a little more open In sport mode with the “Amg sport” exhaust. That’s probably more programming than anything hardware related.

And the actuators are what control the flaps? I looked at the parts diagram but it does not show them as being plugged into anything even though I understand they are electronic...I doubt they are wireless from the factory (?).
