2019 G550 cracked windshield

My G63 too
So a pebble hit my windshield and now I have a 10 inch vertical crack over the left wiper by steering wheel.
I was amongst first to get delivery here in New York in March and have about 4 K miles on truck.
Love the truck but I think this is really a manufacturers’ defect . I want to replace windshield but am told by delearship it may take months to get a replacement.
Oh and I was told $3K will be cost. I will pay but really expect MB to reimburse me as this problem is likely a factory defect. Since this seems to be such a common problem MB should consider adding protective films in addition to addressing production issues with the windshield.

My only reference to the windshield problem is this forum. There seems to be an inordinate amount of occurrences based on member reports. Perhaps someone could organize a group response from forum members and send it off to MBUSA in Atlanta. I don't think you will get much satisfaction from the dealer base. I have a suspicion it might be the quality of the glass itself or an installation glitch on the production line. Although I have heard that Jeep owners deal wit cracked windshields rather routinely.

Exoshield
had Exoshield installed 2-3weeks ago. clarity is great. cleans easily. wipers work fine. i am cleaning w wet paper towel and drying w waffle glass towel. had a walnut sized rock from a lawn mower come from the side and hit the windshield while i was driving about 35mph the other day, i know for a fact w/o the EXO, i would have had some type of visible glass damage, however w the EXO, NOTHING!! could not believe it. i really think this stuff is the real deal.

This is exactly why i am going to purchase the Mercedes Windshield Protection insurance. It can be purchased for around $1,300.00. 5 years of protection, no deductible, up to 5K in payout, so only good for one windshield. Big problem still is the unavailability of the glass. That should change in a few months I would guess. Talked to a Jeep salesman the other day who told me he sees a lot of cracked windshields. My car insurance will pay for a windshield replacement with no deductible as long as a dollar bill will completely cover the crack. However I am afraid they don't have a clue as to how expensive this heated windshield is.

Does CP or ExoSheild void the windshield program Benz offers? Has one had a windsheild break WITH those solutions?
Not sure if it was the guy above in NYC?, but a white g63 came into Benz manhattan on Monday at 3pm with a flat on his 22" wheel - he had a 6" lightening bolt looking crack on his windshield. He wasn't aware of our forum or windshield issues.
[He was putting a full brabus package on it. Will be mean G!]

mb manhattan told me they don't offer windshield protection... seems odd but i have full glass on my auto policy but who know what a pain it would be to claim under that.

Would really like to understand how reliable is the windshield protection film..it’d be great if anyone has taken multiple road trips on the highway and still going strong...

Exo
my Exo-shield install was $380US.
it has been a month or so of driving. no issues. i clean it every evening or so to get bugs off, just wet paper towel and glass towel for drying, easy. posted earlier about walnut sized rock hitting, no damage. do have a small speck/ding on passenger side, tiny, barely visible, unsure when that happened.
so far i think its a good solution. dont know of anything else similar that is better. between the Exo and full car PPF, i think all is good.
as a side note, Exo customer rep did say u can put ceramic coating on top of the EXOSHIELD if you like, i didnt do that. Peace.

I purchased my G63 on June 12, it was suggested I go with Permaplate windshield protection rather than the MB protection which is actually called First Class Windshield Protection and underwritten by Safeguard.
Reason the Permaplate covers up to $8,500.00 in replacement (two windshields) vs the MB which covers up to $5,000.00 (one windshield). Both are priced at $1,240.00. Both are good for 5 years with no deductible.
I also might add that I always wax my windshield every couple of months with a product called Rejex (available on amazon) I had a rock hit dead center on my 2017 GLS550 and it didn't even put a mark on the windshield.

Amazon has several versions? Which one did you use for windshield ?
Thanks

While rejex is probably great from a rain beading and bug repellent I wouldn’t rely on it to protect from rocks etc. I read on many forums that any type of wax or coatings will provide the glass zero protection from chips/cracks or limit in any form.

Yesterday I purchased the MB First Class Windshield Protection. While the Permaplate is probably good also I felt better going with the MB although it only replaces one windshield. Also bought a spare wheel and tire for $2,100.00 instead of the Wheel and Tire Protection. While there I purchased the Prepaid Maintenance which I believe to be a good thing to get on an AMG.

2019 G550 cracked windshield
I have had my 2019 G550 for only 6 months now, and I had to replace cracked windshield twice already; once in March and just today it happened again due road hazards - flying rocks. I have been driven MB since 1994; I had a 2015 G550 coupled with other Mercedes Benz models, and never have i experienced any cracked windshields. This is very disappointing.

Windshield crack
@Topguncsm consider Exo-Shield by Alchemy. has worked so far for me. replacing my windshield was bit of a hassle. this Film makes windshield 6 X harder.
Install was 350$.
I have had rocks hit, so far no damage.
