@fabbrisd1 do you know if this has been on MB’s radar as a key CIP item to fix?

Well, the sandstorm incident occured the day I dropped off the G63 for Xpel wrap. Got it back and the windshield is basically toast. Like you guys with the cracks, I need to bite the bullet and get a new one. So is 2 months the current wait time for a new one?

Mine wasn't cracked. It was sandblasted in a dust storm. However, I wonder if this may stem from defective material as my friend was caught in the same storm and his car was nearly unscathed.

What month did you all take possession of your G? Just seeing if there's a pattern with earlier production vehicles or is it any and all that have been delivered. It'd be helpful to know when your vehicles were manufactured.

thanks,

My truck is currently in getting ppf, tints, and also exoshield. it is supposed to make the windshield 6x stronger, for $400 i think its worth not being fearful every time driving on the highway that its going to chip/crack.

Interesting on the exoshield. OF course, its an extra 400 if the window cracks due to structural induced cracks

I think owners need to report this to NHTSA

If a crack is happening without a visible stone impact then the glass design is defective.
I had a similar issue with Maserati and it looked like a crack within the glass without any rough point impact.
The NHTSA depends on reports from owners and dealers to consider the design defective and force the maker to fix for free, recall or replace.

I know the upright windshield makes it more susceptible to flying debris, but I never had an issue on my old G550...

I take it in next week for replacement, assuming they can get the glass...

My replacement windshield arrived at my Mercedes dealership after waiting about 2 weeks. They started taking apart my car and then found the new windshield they just received was cracked too...

They now have no idea when another will arrive - It has now been about 5 weeks since the broken one came in, 7 weeks since the original cracked...

Sure would be interesting to know what % of 2019 G’s are experiencing cracked windshields, especially versus pre-2019 models. Better yet, how do these stats compare to Jeep Wranglers? Hard to fairly compare these 2 cars, though because the average G owner puts maybe 2,000 mi/yr on their car, whereas Jeep guys rack up more typical average miles per year, like 18,000 mi. Thus, Jeeps have tons more exposure time for their windshields, approaching nearly an order of magnitude more exposure time. If G windshields are anywhere near as bad as Wrangler’s near vertical windshields, it's hardly worth replacing them when they do get busted, as the new windshield will very soon be cracked. Just the price of having such a stand up tall windshield, I guess.

i have had my 2019 G63 for a little over 2 months and I am averaging over 1,200 miles a month. It puts a smile on my face every day I get in it. I have other cars I could drive but the G is so much fun. With them being so sparse I get questions and people wanting to take pics etc. Like most here on the forum I enjoy sharing it.

Nice milage. Question - how is the G on the highway in terms of getting pulled left or right due to road crowning? My old G pulled HARD on highways with alot of crowning. Hiping this drives straight in the left (passing) lanes :-)

There’s no pulling hard period. I just got home from a 1,000+ mile trip. At me point I got a bit bored, so I tried hands-free driving for a while. Once I got the steering wheel aligned just right, the G drove straight hands-free without need for corrections.

Just cracked my G63 Edition 1 Windshield while driving at 70 MPH with approx 4500 Miles on the odometer. This was a spider crack and it did not run and it was repaired successfully and is very difficult to see now.

Delighted to hear that! My main use for the G will be bi weekly 200 drives to and from NYC / Vermont. Its about 100miles on a straight highway (87). No i just worry about the windsheild. When I get it the first day I will be adding a windshield protection of some sort.

I think it was a pebble. At least it sounded like that and there was a definite impact spot. The good news is that it did not run and the spider crack was about the size of a dime and easy to repair. It can still be seen if looking for it but I don’t plan on replacing the windshield considering how frequently I expect it to get cracked if it is anything like my previous 2015 G. I think I patched that windshield 3 or 4 times.

Has anyone in the US got a quote from MB for their windshield insurance policy? Seems the policy is limited to $5,000 so you'll only get one replacement out of it.

a friend of mine just bought a 720s and his windshield cracked inside of 500 miles. Mclaren said it was a defect on their and and they repacked in and he didn't have to use his glass insurance. that was a 8k windshield. second windshield is doing fine so far.

Yep, my son has a 570GT that got a cracked windshield after a few hundred miles and McLaren replaced it no problem. Great brand, and super hot right now. Everyone's converting from Lambos to McLarens
