2020 New allocation vs purchasing from dealer

I've been in the market to purchase a new G63 and many dealers here in Southern California are asking $5,000 for a deposit but none of the dealers are confirming MSRP and stating it will be the market price on the date of release. Is this universal right now since there is demand? Also, a couple of dealers here in Orange County are stating they are seeing more G63 hit the dealerships now. MB Laguna Niguel SA said he sold a Matte Black at $30k over and MB San Diego SA said he just sold a Yellow Olive Magno for $50k over.

For the basic White, Silver, Grey or Black, how much over are you seeing in Southern California? I was looking at these colors with the night package, designo leather, and 360 parking as must-haves which mostly all of them should have. The only reason, I would spec out a 2020 or 2021 would be to have a black roof and black fenders. Is Matte really going for more?

I offered $20k over for an Obsidian Black and they said no. Mostly everyone I speak with seems to be around $30-$35k. I saw a post from an artist, Alec Monopoly that he negotiated MSRP and just recently came in and his SA bait and switched him for $20k probably thinking that he was a celebrity, etc. He roasted that dealership and SA on his IG and people commented some bad things from MB Keyes Van Nuys.

I plan on keeping the G63 for a while but thinking if paying more than $20k+ to wait 12 months is worth it. I know it eventually is my decision but do you think a year from now, it will hit MSRP, etc.

Thanks in advance!

2026 G63
Another forum member living in CA placed an order with Mercedes Manhattan I think in person. Maybe since they are corporate they don't care about regions?

If they can take your order at MSRP, you could pay for a flight to and from NYC first class to place an order in person and then pay for transportation across country at delivery for less than $20,000.

I'd personally never pay over sticker just on principle.

From my perspective - for G63 - a new-deposit/new-order-with-dealer with about every dealer I know off frankly will be about 14-16 months - which means a 2021.

It's all fair play in Limited Luxury Land to charge +$35K for Market Adjustment for a G63 - exactly the same market adjustment for Porsche GT3 RS for every Porsche dealer in SoCal....

The "burn" is on the Porsche if you place a order - delivery will be MSRP..

The SoCal dealers have more than enough customer order backlog now - and enough left over for market-adjustment/delivery-now - and with the added Manufakter choices just keeps SoCal guys like you locked down.

Fascinating to me, that dealers are getting over MSRP for such a mass produced vehicle... I mean, not Honda Accord mass produced, but there are thousands and thousands of them... with a little patience they can be found

MB dealers do not have many cars that have this situation unlike Porsche who regularly deal with market premiums so its a bit of a land grab. I'd say if the dealer will not commit in writing that you are getting your order at MSRP then you have no real guarantee. Picked up my G63 in NorCal yesterday and was pleasantly surprised the dealer did not attempt to charge a premium and charged MSRP. I think it will take another year for demand to return to normal. I do think if you place your deposit and wait it out that most dealers will honor MSRP but may be hard to get in writing. Have heard more than a few stories where this wasn't the case.

Just called around and 3 dealers have G63 in stock and all of them said they all said they could not do $25k over sticker on a 2 white ones and a black one. 1 in Northern California and 2 in Southern California. One in LA area wanted $50k firm for a Matte Yellow/Olive lol.

Mercedes Benz of Manhattan sell them all at sticker. It is a corporate store they can't charge over.. Just the allocation is the issue I heard.

Having the same problem in San Diego. Lowest I got was 20K above MSRP for black with night package but my friend declined the mark up. The last G63 in stock (El Cajon MBZ), we offered 15K over then 20 (it was for a friend in LA) but offer was declined and two days after the wagon arrived they sold it over 30K. Now my neighbor wants one for his wife but only one coming to El Cajon is the emerald green metallic with night (arrive in a few months) but no price given. I know his wife and she don't like green cars so the search continues. He is willing to get out of state if somebody in the forum has idea where to purchase.

New and used G-Wagons Over MSRP in all US States

I decided to check out of state for 2020 G63 availability and price. This is what I found, Texas $50K over MSRP, Atlanta year waiting list, Chicago zero in stock but next two are already sold well above MSRP. Then I decided to search for used 2019 with less than 7k miles. Only three from private sellers and all 30K over MSRP (of $164k). After speaking with my friend about G-wagons, we both looked at the new GLS63 and it seems he may go that direction since the SUV is for his wife's B-day. He asked if GLS participates in the EDP. I responded with " Alabama is pretty nice in the winter but make sure you bring a heavy Jacket and a good translator app on your smart phone".

One problem you may encounter is a dealer will not be inclined to sell out of his region fearing you shipping the car overseas on a flip

Good point! Everyone I spoke too on the phone asked the same thing "is it a local, out or state or country". Then they would say we do not do oversees deliveries. I guess, I have to cancel the order from the Mexican Cartel ... he he he

A gaggle of MB's
I like this part "I called around Cali those three dealers that showed G63's and offered them $25K over"... a day after I posted SoCal "market Adjustment" is currently $35K .. waste of time.

The next part "I called out-of-state".. after a not-so-bad post recommending MB Manhattan "might" be able to accept a face-to-face order ...

"Most" MB dealers has customer pre-orders (w/deposit) that will take them out over 14-18 months on G63's - and out 10-12 months on G550's.

Limited supply versus "apparent" high demand - I say apparent since it will take some more units to be delivered to "shake the order tree" as to who with deposit will fade away...

The manufaktur move is smart - and understand that is a strong signal Steyr will NOT be increasing production - thru added manufaktur options MB can make more dough - and MB is far from the 1st to use this manufaktur strategy..

I like diamond stitchings on my Ferraris, so I had to get the G-Manufaktur option on the G63. However, I have been reading the 2020 options file and I can't seem to find any difference between the regular upgraded leather option vs. the G-Manufaktur option except it has the badge on the passenger handle bar. Am I missing anything here?

My dilemma as well. Like what else does it have?!? It can't be just that badge. Maybe it really is just for the different color pattern seats (900 series) + that badge handle bar since you're not able to select the 800 series seat.

Don't buy in to this markup. Just order and wait. I'm sure you have other cars. I turn down 2, one at 20k and one at 10k.

I have had the exact issue and have been to every dealer from SD to Palm Springs. Heck, actually seeing one at a CA dealer seams to be an impossible dream. Honestly, I think it is all BS just like they used to do with Harley's. I cant stand when you walk into these dealers they are so cocky and arrogant the moment you say G wagon. They won't even take your number as they just don't care.

I stopped looking as I want to actually drive one first vs just buying it which is impossible. There isn't a dealer who will allow this which is insane considering its a $200k car. Maybe you wont like it? How do you buy a car just on its looks? I know what the old one was like as I had a 15 and probably would have never sold it if I new this was going to happen as I should have.

Autotrader has so many listed across the country how isn't there some small dealer that will sell at MSRP? I need to drive first but for you guys looking to just buy it there are tones of them on Autotrader? Are they all fishing for additional money over MSRP?

Your crazy if your spending $50k over MSRP I don't care what you have thats just dumb!

I wouldn't pay a single dollar over sticker for the G63. It's a mass produced model to start and it will be in production for many years to come.

I didn't even walk into a Mercedes dealership. Just picked up my phone and called my Porsche GM. He made a phone call to the sister Mercedes dealership and voila, 2020 G63 to be delivered in 5 months time at MSRP. I HATE dealing with BMW/Mercedes dealerships.

Well I found out that Manhattan verbally said they would refund the deposit but they would not put it in writing that the deposit was refundable. It’s states on the contract that if you do not purchase the car, the deposit could not be refundable.

I found a dealer in SoCal that had an allocation in October for December arrival for a 2020 model.

G63 in San Diego

I spoke with my neighbor who is the Finance Manager for MBZ and he has provided me options on new arrivals and the two manufacture demos he has in stock. He has a red and black demo under 2k miles. If u are interested I can forward his contact information. He does charge above MSRP but nearly as much as the other stealerships. I’m starting to lean towards the GLS63 2020 after speaking with him.

There are so many new cars out that the G can wait for me. There are also so many deals on even still new 18's I can pick one up at a great price. I get all the updates but I do no want it as an everyday car anyway so Im starting to think with multiple cars its not going to fit as a replacement for my daily anyway. I am not saying I wouldn't buy one or they are junk its just not worth the hassle. I am an ego driven person but not at that price. If you have it like that more power to you.

I still haven't even seen one but then I have stopped looking.
