At a loss for words. Bought a 2020 G63 and the matte paintwork was polished on the rear of the car leaving deep swirl marks. Dealer doesn't think the buffing happened at the dealership and transport (Plycar) is denying responsibility so far
"amaycg people are dying" - I know but it's so sad 😭 rest of the car is a dream

Oh man so sorry - hope dealer steps up
Quote:
thank you - the marring on the magno night black is all over the spare cover too. The back side of the car also looks bad when light hits it. Car also arrived with purple oil like liquid all over it - assuming more cars were placed on top of it. Even though this was Plycar and everything they do is covered transport, I'm very disappointed and would avoid them in the future. Originally Posted by Festertester

Found a picture my salesperson sent me AFTER we signed the papers where the same scratches are visible (faint, but visible)...hopefully dealer steps up since they failed to disclose damage to the BRAND NEW car before putting it on a transporter to me!Originally Posted by amaycg

TBH almost every Magno G Wagon I've seen has factory paint defects. The dealership I bought from even had two cars that had G wagons delivered with paint damaged from contact (i.e. something hit the paint causing removal).
It seems G Wagon's don't get any special transportation.

Factory didn't put swirl marks in the paint and the transporter probably never rven touched the paint. Did your dealer prep the truck before delivery to you?
Can you post some pics of what it looks like now?

Yes will upload soon. Basically looks like deep swirl marks in the matte paintwork. Originally Posted by Bob Z.

ExploreWhole tail light, area near emblem, rear door, rear tire cover, and ring are covered in these types of scratches. Don't know how to even approach the dealer on this one... The second photo above is what Beverly Hills Coachcraft had done when they repainted a matte G63. Color mismatch is unfortunately a bit obvious.
Wow! Dealer offered to take car back. Think I'm going to do that and wait for another one. It was a good 24 hour run 😂
There are a "few" Mercedes Certified Collision Center's who are also Matte Certified (separate training/certification).
I would only trust a shop who is Certified - or a high end shop who has solid "matte" experience.
On "open" shipping it is not uncommon for carriers to load "rear first" - the carrier would also have photos before loading.
Sorry about the hassle - but I have never used those shipping guys you mention...

thank you! The car was enclosed. Also I went to the certified MBUSA center near me (there's only one) and they told me they couldn't match it. Saw another G63 there that they were working on also in Magno black painted in the same section and it definitely didn't look great from a lot of angles. Originally Posted by fabbrisd1

i didn't check to see if it was matte certified though... do you know where I could find a list of those? Originally Posted by fabbrisd1

You must be an important client. I may have missed it, but did you say that they're ordering another one for you? Senior Member
Prep guys at dealers aren't the highest paid people in the world and I hate to insult the good ones but they are usually not educated in their field. The damage someone can do with a buffer wheel is beyond what most people could imagine. it takes a lot of skill and knowledge to properly polish a car.
Glad that dealer stepped up but with those pictures and not disclosing damages they had no choice. Who pays the shipping?
It might be difficult to match the sheen but the color shouldn't be an issue. Base color is easily matched as remember all base coats are matte when color matched. The sheen in the clear can be tricky. I can't believe a MB Certified shop said they cant fix it? First off it might just be in the clear and polishable. I have never polished a matte car but I do not believe the polishing would effect the sheen of the clear like yo think it would.

Oh yes it will! I have a couple spots on my Matte Harley that received a little too much elbow grease and they are shiny now. Speaking of such maybe the dealer will have detailers take another crack at it and they can sell it as Gloss Black when they are done.
Interesting question on how to find a MB Certified Collision Center that is also "Magno Certified" ...
If this was "Non-Driveable Accident Damage" MB Roadside Assist group would have it towed no charge to the nearest MB Certified Collision Center - at that point Roadside Assist Group would do the 2nd Search for the closest Magno Certified - then as "Non-Driveable Accident Damage" Roadside would arrange no charge to that Magno Certified Collisdion Center.
That said - "somewhere" in the Roadside Assistance support group they have that Magno list - as everyone is working from home/remote - you might start there - or start with MB Concierge - "could" have info back to you in 2-3 days.
In my area in the Midwest - the record was a 685 mile one way "flat bed"...

they haven't agreed quite yet as I later found out not to mention that they don't have builds open right now. Keeping my options open but my salesperson and the manager will talk tomorrow. Could have also been caused by a brush or something - dealer told me there was ice everywhere that day. Originally Posted by sweet63

I hope that your dealer finds a way to get an order for you asap. So disappointing that this happened. You have a good attitude under these circumstances.

Have them pay for a Full Exterior Paint Protection Film (Clear Bra) wrap.
0. Make sure it's a Matte Clear Bra Film.
1. All Scratches Will Hide Once the Clear Bra Film is installed
2. You Now Officially protected the whole car
3. Full Exterior Clear Bra Wrap at dealer is $5,500. So it won't cost them too much. The G63 has a 17% Markup (Invoice to MSRP). So taking the $5,500 out, they still eat healthy.

A full body PPF is at least $8k and anything less would make me take a serious look at the installer! And 17%?! It cannot be that high! I am not sure where you got that number from but I would venture to say it is no more than 8%.Originally Posted by MS616

I am working with the dealer on this as a possible solution! Going to see if XPEL stealth covers the marks and I'll happily keep the one I have. Matte magno + trail package = killer combination Originally Posted by MS616
