Question What is the vent behind the cargo window?

What is the vent-looking vertical structure behind the side windows of the cargo area in the photo? (Sorry, I'm new to G-wagens.) Upon delivery, I casually asked the local dealership fleet manager what they were and he said he thinks they are nothing, but I haven't been into service yet to ask a service rep. Unless I missed it, I couldn't find any reference to it in the manual, at least in the ventilation sections. I couldn't find any reference to it online, although the keyword "vent" usually refers to the airconditioning vents, although I did see an aftermarket carbon fiber replacement you can buy.

If it is a vent, what is it venting, the inside cabin? I assume it would be a passive vent, unless there was some automated electronic control process involved. But then again, there are posts in this forum talking about problems with cabin pressure and noises, so maybe this is not a vent at all.

Thanks.

I believe they are for air flow ventilation: in through the front and out through the side/rear. Since the vehicle is pretty airtight it needs a way to breath.

When the g’s engine is on with A/C at higher speeds and windows closed, go outside and feel the air coming out of these vents - as Bob Z said. One of the possible remedies the mb has suggested is to change these vents to ease the whistle noise and/or cabin pressure- I am going to get that done in first service due in about 45 days...

I tried it - Wow there’s a lot of air coming out of there. Do other cars have this and I just never thought about it?

So I assume these are passive vents, no fan involved, just relieving internal pressure?

i also assume it’s not a one-way valve, and air could flow freely both ways?

Same here as I would like to verify how many of certain exhaust hanger I need. There are many online parts places that have parts diagrams but it would be nice to double-check unless these are the same.

Just tried the URL and looks like a backend portal for dealerships.

http://xentryportal.i.daimler.com/

When I built my last cafe racer from a BMW K-Bike there was a microfische that had everything broken down, it was a life saver.

Would be great to have one for the public for these trucks, everything is so hidden to get information.

So far the below is the only online manual I've sourced, and it still has gaps.

Yeah that's amazing, thanks. Looks like those vents even have their own water drainage.

So my next question was naturally: where then does the air exit from the inside of the cabin to reach those outside vents?
Using a piece of paper to test it, I’m pretty sure it exits thru the rear half of this vent located at the inside bottom of the cargo side windows:
