What’s up everyone? John Vincent here. New owner of a 2010 G550. Photo attached. Working through some wear issues and the usual after buying a car second hand.

Any tips that I immediately should look at is super appreciated.

It’s my first Benz. Ready for the ride. 🙏🏽

Hi John!

Welcome to MBworld and thank you for the introduction and photo!

I'm moving your post to the G class forum which is better suited to offer answers to your questions. Good luck!

Any service records from CarFax?

I would check all fluids, inspect everything underneath (look at all the boots on the suspension components and give everything a good tug), change the oil for peace of mind and give the air filters a look for starters.

If you're looking to get the mod bug @shiann has a great thread going here:
https://mbworld.org/forums/g-class-w...5-journey.html

And I have a thread on my mod / upgrade journey here:
https://mbworld.org/forums/g-class-w...so-begins.html

He and I joined around the same time this year.

Welcome aboard!

Re: Carfax
It was serviced in July - Oil and filter changed. Prior to that it was serviced at a MB dealership back in June. In April, Brakes were checked, Fluids were checked, Oil and filter changed, tire condition and pressure checked and maintenance inspection was completed at a MB dealership.

Thanks for the suggestions and will def dig into all of that this coming week. After 2-days of driving it around, a few things are starting to turn up that I'm going to prioritize and handle before moving into anything else.

There seems to be something off with the wiring of my rear lights. Sometimes the driver side left signal doesn't work, sometimes it does. Same happens with the passenger side.

I also bought the car without a brush guard, so looking for this. Any direction on where I can purchase would be helpful!

Welcome! I answered some of your brush guard questions over on the other thread.

Even with MB checking the fluid levels, you should still get down there and see for yourself. All the differentials, swivel *****, etc. If you haven't already, you should check to make sure your differential locks work (not on pavement)

For the rear lights, that will be harder to diagnose. Another member recently had some issues with their rear lights and they had to replace a computer module that was acting up. Hope your issue is just a switch contact or bulb issue though!

Thank you for that!

All good points and will definitely do this ASAP. A family mechanic mentioned it's feeling like a computer module issue. All bulbs were changed out. When all the lights are on and when the car is running everything works fine. Very strange. At this point, I don't really have a choice outside of going to MB.

3 days into owning this lovely 550. Feeling it out a lot and recognizing a few things that needs attention ASAP. I was able to snap some pictures today while parked for an errand.

There's some paint chip on the passenger side headlights. Getting the car fully detailed and all that tomorrow, Friday, so hoping this can be resolved. Driver side headlights is also glowing pink, so might as well replace it all.

Definitely getting used to not having a brush guard. The look's kind of clean. With that said though, I still definitely want to have one and planning on painting all black once I do find one.

Looking into either powder coating the rims to black or purchasing some new ones. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Great looking truck.

I would just powedercoat the stock rims, esp if you're going black with everything else.

Looks like you might be in a front plate state, if so check out the front plate mount from 911 motorsports

Looking into powder coating the rims satin black. Getting quotes now. Are there any cons to powder coating? I’ve heard of stuff not lasting and go back monthly to re-coat.

Thanks for the license plate mount!

You should be set for years of driving w powder coating. Just find a reputable shop that has a lot of reviews.

Hardest part is going to have no truck for a while until you get them done. May want to look into new tires at the same time since you will be doing a dismount and remount on the rim.

Really bummed out. It looks like the window motor on my left back seat is no longer working. After lowering the window today, it didn’t go back up. We had to pull it up today and tape it to stay up.

This will definitely push back some of my other additions to the truck for now until I get this fixed. 😐

Window motors and door lock actuators. They will fail all the time. There are a few videos on Youtube that detail the replacement, as well as lube instructions. Search W463 window regulator. I would remove the regulator and cable system first to see what the actual issue is and buy the replacement parts necessary.

In my truck's prior life's carfax, I counted at least 8 dealership window regulator replacements before 50k miles.

I somewhat feel a lot better knowing that this is a common issue. I found the parts online. Prioritizing this and will circle back.

Thanks for the tip and help so far.

What’s up guys? I found a list for a G550 brush bar on Ebay. Before I pull the trigger, wanted to get any one thoughts to confirm that this actually fits my G550?

It looks like the correct one to fit your G550. The center bar and the headlight surrounds are level which is correct for the non-DRL cars. I see 3 issues with this though.
1. Lots of paint chips and 'issues' all over marked in pink paint marker
2. The image of the "inside" view, the bolt on the right side holding the right headlight bar looks pretty bent, which could be an issue
3. There are no supporting brackets + hardware, which will probably be more difficult to track down than the bar. They're not available from MB anymore that I know of.

Thanks for all the feedback! Over night, I found another and the seller said the only thing missing are bolts. Confirming that this fits my G550. The condition of this one looks close to brand new though. https://www.ebay.com/itm/133420492187

This second all chrome one looks to be for the G63 front bumpers only.

Finally got a few of my major issues handled, but still have a lot left to fix up. The main being my window issue, scheduled to get this fixed this coming week.

Starting to take the steps to blacking out the G. Changed out the turn signals today.

Would love some suggestions on the best way to go about blacking out the grill. I don’t mind purchasing something after market if need be.

I’ve been on and off on on adding light guards. Really hate the idea of having to drill to install them. As much as I love how they do look.

Last, trying to ID some wheels. Would love any leads to either the exact or something similar.

Thanks!

You can get some vinyl to wrap the grill, the same as I did for the running boards...here is thread I posted about doing it: https://mbworld.org/forums/g-class-w...ng-boards.html

And here are some wheels/tires you can probably get a real good deal on. They are not entirely Black but they would look good on yours: https://mbworld.org/forums/market/783028

Thank you! Going to look into the idea of vinyl wrapping the grill. Thanks for the wheels/tires tip. I'm pretty set on the styles I sent above. But once again thank you!

Update on some issues I encountered today that'd I love some sort of feedback on. The first being what looks like rust by my windshield. See photo and video below.

I'm also starting to see a windshield wiper fluid leak. It's not coming up on my dashboard as low though but any leak honestly bothers me, so I'm taking it back to the shop and add on to fixing it along my rear window. Interestingly enough, I literally just got this back from the Benz service. They must've missed it smh.
