1,500 mile Oil Change....
Approaching 1,500 miles and I am ready to give her it’s first oil change.
Anything special when doing the change? Just one drain plug, filter and 10qts of oil..?
Anyone know the torque spec on the drain plug?

See my posts on the old forum dated Oct 4th and Sep13th (2020) for info about the oil filter cap drain plug and resetting the service indicator. Not sure about the drain plug torque spec - It's a carefuly guarded MB secret.

Found them both, thank you.
However, Mercedes website seems to indicate 5w30...
Hopefully, I didn’t mess something up by ordering Liqui Moly Top Tech 4600 5w30....??
In my research, I found torque spec on drain plug at 15ft lbs and 20ft lbs....I am planning on 17.5

The G550 (not sure about the G63) OM says MB-229.52 is the recommended approved oil, which Liqui-Moly Top Tec 4600 5W-30 meets. I find it interesting that any of these 4 viscosities are acceptable -- all my other vehicles are viscosity specific (my Lexus OM says that if another viscosity has to be added in an emergency, to do a complete oil/filter service as soon as possible thereafter.) Mobil-1 makes an "ESP" formulation in 5W-30 (and some others) that meets this MB spec also. Some of the auto stores now carry it for ~$14.00/qt. Ordinary Mobil-1 Euro formula 0W-40 is spec'd for MB-229.5, not 229.52. How much importance to attach to a number 2 places to the left of a decimal point? Hard to say when MB doesn't bother to put a dipstick on this engine and doesn't include any oil change info in the OM. Oil vendors say MB-229.52 benefits mostly diesel exhaust systems, and eeks out a nearly immeasurable gain in fuel economy (totally immeasurable on a G).

Agreed on all fronts, kind of amazing that in the manual nor under the hood, does it state a recommended weight. Probably not a good idea, especially for people who aren’t into cars and receive a “add 1 qt” message....
On the Mercedes site above, it did show several weights, however, the first picture shows ( as, I understood it anyway,) is the OEM weight of 5w-30.
Living a few miles from the Canada border, I would probably benefit from a zero weight oil.
Oh well, too late to return 10qts. I will have to make it work.
By the way, do you have a good source for the plastic filter housing? I am thinking if I don’t have a spare, that is precisely the time I will need one.
Thanks again for the write-up, my closest dealer is 6 hours away and I don’t plan on only changing the oil 1x per 10,000 miles.
We definitely need a sticky DIY section on this forum...

Ordered the filter cap kit (p/n 177 180 0110) and additional Hengst filters (p/n 278 180 0009) from FCP Euro (www.fcpeuro.com). Cap kit was ~$52 and filters are ~$10/ea. Free (but slow) delivery on orders $49+. Hengst makes a higher grade filter (p/n 278 180 0800) that you might want to use instead if you're doing 10K change intervals. I do changes every 5K and use the -0009 version. The cap kit (packaged in a MB OEM part box) is provided with the -0009 filter so it must be OK.
