I have been hearing a rattling noise on upshift come from the rear D-pillar speakers. The speakers seam to be working fine. I can't replicate the sound with anything other than accelerating/upshifts above 3rd and >2000rpm. I cannot get it to replicate on downshifts. As soon as the upshift is completed the rattle goes away.

Has anyone had this happen, if so what was the fix?

Wow the same exact thing has been happening on my new 21 G63 but didn’t know how to explain it in a post nor had the time to take it to the dealer. It’s very annoying and need to find a fix. If anyone knows anything please let us know. Thanks.

I’ve also noticed but the rattling noise I’m hearing sounds like it’s coming from the rear door speakers.
Does MB have exhaust fake sound piped through speakers now??

I 100% have a noise on up-shifts coming from the rear corners on the inside. More like a low frequency hum for just a second exclusively on up-shifts. I brought it in to the dealer for a host of cabin pressure issues to which I attribute this sound to, and they basically told me it was normal. I get the window down whirl, vents whistling, ear popping pressure change if you roll the real windows down at medium to high speed; and of course, the subject of the thread noise. I was more focused on the break squeel so I put all my eggs in that basket. I've come to deal with the other noises but its legit annoying. I'm guessing the beast is super water tight so I guess that is the tradeoff.
I'll try to get a sound clip at some point.

These posts are so therapeutic to know others are having the same issues It really is maddening.

I have the most sensitive ears I know and yes, I do have this noise along with a host of others.

I used to spend endless hours, days, weeks, going back and forth to the dealers trying to resolve the next rattle, ticking, whistling etc, all the way to when I sold each car.

The reality is, there are so many more components in modern day cars and wiring as well, the odd rattle or noise every now and then is almost expected. I do not want to say I have given up, but rather accepted cars for what they are, and have found I am enjoying them a lot more

With that said, if there is a major rattle or noise then yes, I would chase it to the death, but otherwise, simply turn your tunes up a bit more and drive in peace

Thanks for posting guys. Usually these noises don’t bother me too much but it really depends.

This up shift noise is pretty annoying.

Hopefully soon I’ll be going with catless DPs and tune and it should drown out the upshift noise or maybe make it worse lol.

I suspect the noise may be coming from the rear seatbelt tensioners.

I’ll have to do a little more experimenting to nail it down but I noticed when I had passengers in the rear belted in, the noise was diminished, not totally gone but less noticeable.

FYI, I did not have this noise in my 2020 G550 but do in my 2021 G63.

I have the same exact noise on up shift on my 2020 and have figured out where it comes from, It comes from the upper rear doors speakers. I have pushed them using my fingers in the corners of the speakers but not too hard be carful until you hear a click. The sound went a way for a day or two but came back again. I don't want to push the speakers inside again afraid to break them. I am sure the factory did not install them very well.

I have the same problem with my 2021 G63… like a buzzing vibration from the back when it upshifts, with or without the power exhaust turned on… it sounds like a loose piece of plastic… I haven’t had the time to investigate it yet but plan on doing it with a friend in the back to figure out where it’s coming from. Will post here if I discover something new.

Pull the seat belts all the way out and use a chip bag clip so they cant retract. See if that does anything. Try sitting in the back seat and letting someone else do the driving to see if you can pinpoint it. I used to get mad and just turn up the damn radio.

I solved alot of these rattles and buzzing noises in the doors by stuffing 2" Egg crate mattress topper material behind the door panels. You don't have to totally pull the door panels off, just pop off the bottom half, cut some of the egg crate material and then just stuff it in around both the speakers and the edges (when you put your hand back there you'll notice where its "hollow") and put the material in there - the material squishes in there great and then it expands. I had the noise coming from both the rear and front passenger doors...sound went away by doing this so then I did the driver side doors just cuz I had alot of the material left!!!

Update: the speaker was replaced but no luck; then the the audio control unit was found to be the culprit and was ultimately replaced and the problem is gone.

Great to hear. What is the easiest way to deal with this when taking it in? Have them go for a drive to reproduce the noise? What does the audio control unit do? Thanks in advance.

I had the service advisor ride with me to verify the noise and so he could explain it to the tech. My understanding is the ACU delivers the audio signal from the source to the speaker. It’s been great not hearing that noise!
