New 2021 G63 general observations

I just love the 2021 G63 and wanted to share a few things. So much has changed since I changed from my 2017 model. I can't convey in words to how good it really is right now. Starting with the get up and go. I am still breaking in a new motor, but it is just quicker off the line period. The ride is much better with the longer wheel base and the bit wider interior and track are more comfy and reassuring. The suspension settings are tuned well and very noticeable. Leg room was addressed and it is much better now on the pedals. Steering is more precise and smoother. Turning radius and body roll are way better and the feedback is much more assured at varied speeds.

The seats and interior are more refined with much more technology. It seems to me that the windshield doesn't have the glare inside like my prior G had and it seems like the view out front is better. The doors just shut better, including the back door and they for some reason feel heavier and more solid. I am not 100 percent sure but the latches seem a bit more oversized. I really like the control buttons and control knob that are back lit on the lower portion of the steering wheel. I am not sure but I heard those are omitted if you get the heated steering wheel option. The individual mode access is cool. Just push the control dial in and you have your preprogrammed settings you set up for suspension, exhaust, performance etc. I have to mention the cameras as well because they offer so much more in view around the vehicle. The rear camera has its own neat trick where it stays hidden to keep clean. When it's needed it pops out and yes it has a mode to where u can clean it if need be.

The seats with massage are great and the seats are more reassuring in general. The interior and exterior LED lighting is top shelf and the projector image from the mirrors to the ground with the Mercedes emblem is a nice touch. I thought the newer design would be lacking in exhaust sound compared to what I had. I don't think so now. It may be a bit quieter on start up. But when the valves are opened up in cruise mode or just idling, I hear quite a bit more rumble from the dual exhaust. It seems a lot of thought and engineering went into the whole package. There is so much more to touch on but the best thing is to just experience one. To be honest, I am glad it doesn't have the Mbux. I hate touch screen stuff with the screens that end up looking like a finger print card with all those prints and smudges. (:

You forgot the most important part, the exterior!

I still can't find a SUV/truck that shows more presence beside a 19-21' G63 (even the older models!). Also, looks are subjective, but I think the newer G63s are the best looking SUVs on the market. Cullinan? Nah. Urus? Nah. New Range Rover? Lol.

Your comment on the MBUX is interesting. Coming from BMW's, I always used to use iDrive. Found it to be the best sorted system. But since CarPlay came along, I just use that. I had a 2016, sold it after less than a year. Didn't like the truck like ride. Just sold my 2021 X5M back to the dealer and picked up a pre-owned 2020 G63. It is REALLY improved. One thing you didn't touch on was the transmission. The old transmission was laboriously slow. The new one is crazy fast with it's shift and can now, genuinely, be shifted with the paddles.

You are right, how could I miss that part. (:

Totally agree. I have a 2019 550. Absolutely love it! Wouldn't trade it for any other suv in the world. So glad for no touch screen. I want control knobs and buttons. That will always be present. Touchscreens are the trend for now.

U know what, Mbux is good. I am just OCD and hate the smudge on any push screens and not having physical buttons so much. Great to mention the transmission, I agree. It does shift well and just seems matched better to the power.

Great machine and thats how I am too. I like buttons and knobs more than push screens. I have a pickup with a touch screen and some buttons as well. But to get in to turn the heated steering wheel on or off or the heated seats, you have to go through the screen. How about one lil button instead lol

No doubt. Most vehicles it takes the act of congress just to turn on the heated or ventilated seats. You better pull over for it.

Exactly, I learned much of that from driving motorcycles. When u get so preoccupied with trying to turn something on or off, things can happen very fast. At 75 mph you are traveling about 110 feet per second if my calculations are right. Looking down for 2 to 3 seconds, oh ohhhhhh

Wow!!

You have really made me more excited about the G I’m waiting on. I visualized every inch of your G. Sounds like the suv I will ride for as long as I live! I’ll hug mine whenever I get it. Enjoy‼️

Thanks, and you will love it I am sure. I don't know how many videos I watched on reviews lol. Is your G a 21 build?

The interior lighting is unbelievable and the illuminated MB star from the courtesy lamp outside is icing on the cake. Done sublime imo.

It’s a 2021 G550

Yes I ordered a 2021 G550 and I’ve read so many comments on this blog that said no 2021 production or delivery after Dec 31 ‘21. My salesperson says the first of ‘22. So I am waiting- impatiently.
I’ve watched reviews and read about the truck and I just can’t wait!! So glad to know some people are getting their G’s.

There will be no 2021 builds in the 2022 year I was told. Maybe your dealer meant your 2021 would be delivered in Jan 2022. Did you pay money down or get a PO number etc etc. What say you~!

Dealers all over are saying so many different things I don't know what to believe. It would be nice if MB came out with an official notice as to what they are doing. My salesperson told me in Dec '21, "MB has paused on all GWagons. Once production starts back up mine will be 3 months away". Yes, I've read a lot of post about Dec 31 '21 that a lot of different information buyers etc have gotten from their dealership. So I'm waiting to see what actually happen on my end. I will be sure to let everyone know!!

Thanks for getting back and I hope you get what you want. Be interesting to see how fast the MB order site changes up.

To give you some insight from outside of USA,
it seems like they are selling 22s in Europe and Middle East countries, whereas in Asia they are selling 21s.

In Korea, we recently received info of production schedule in Feb and March of 2022 as MY21s.

So it may be possible.

In the USA it’s not possible for the MY21 cars to be produced in 2022. If it wasn’t built by today it’s not coming to the USA as a 21.
