Anyone receiving a G580 next month?

I'm expecting mine next month now, just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat - both physically and literally.

Can’t your sales advisor give you the information?

They should, especially with such a near future expected date. If they will not tell them to ask their manager since they may be lazy or not know how.

They don't know what boat it's being loaded on to yet - just figured someone here might know from their order - supposedly there is only one or two that's going out in the next 2 weeks.

I doubt that any cars will ship to the East coast until the longshoremen’s strike is resolved

In the past (with smaller strikes), they haven't.

Wow, I’m sure, they’re not going to ship any vehicles until the strike is over. Who knows when mine will arrive due to the strike.

My G63 was just loaded on the Morning Composer destined for Baltimore (where the port is closed!)

I think we are all screwed until the strike is over. I have a 550 that is at port waiting on a ship. My dealer said the 580 specifically is probably going to be delayed because the vehicles that are due to arrive at port, will just sit there. Dealers have also not received their "programs" yet. These are the models expected to be part of the usual fall sales events. Mercedes is certainly monitoring the strike. If the strike goes on for several weeks, it will effect on hand inventory and thus raise prices. It may also push back manufacturing dates if the factory shifts the manufacture of US bound vehicles due to the strike.

MB was expecting to do a big delivery event in October for the G580's (pending EPA certifications). But yes, I don't think it's happening now lol. I just got my wife's Range Rover out of the port 2 days before the strike started (it was there for 3mo awaiting EPA certifications).

The Port of Baltimore has been open for some time now: https://governor.maryland.gov/news/p...baltimore.aspx

Here is an interesting article about the port: https://www.autoweek.com/news/a60432...ips-most-cars/

I think the new strike, that started today, includes the Port of Baltimore.

The IAL strike is going to be tough for consumers in general. For those of us on the West Coast, we've already gone through it in 2022 and 2023 in Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach. If I recall, studies show that for every 1 day that a port is closed, it takes 5 days after it begins operational to catch up on its backlog - at least that is/was the case on the West Coast.

Dealers actually don't mind these strikes/walkouts as they will end up making more money due to pent-up demand. When the cars at the docks are released and eventually arrive at the dealerships, buyers are so frustrated from the long wait they don't think twice about paying the increase in fees the dealers have tagged on. Dealers will often attribute the additional ADM ("additional" means above the agreed upon ADM) to "shipping" fees, claiming that the port situation increased their cost. Note that this is NOT true so don't fall for it. MB actually bears the cost of shipping, and dealers are responsible only for delivery costs from the dock to the dealerships.

Lastly, when the backlog and supply chain issues happened on the West Coast in 2022 and 2023, that was also when we saw dealerships on the West coast begin asking for well north $50k in ADMs for G63's that have yet to be locked in.

Just some things to be aware of for those of you waiting for delivery of your G Wagons.

Mine is on the water, supposed to arrive at the US port October 10. I think I can track with the Vin# but that won't ease the anticipation. At this point nothing I can do other than keep my fingers crossed about the strike. Selfishly, I want it to end ASAP. In reality though, I can wait if it will improve the lives of several thousand hard working people... I guess

I track at MarineTraffic.com

It shows the ship's progress as it leaves Europe and picks up again when it approaches the U.S.
