Go to a drag strip and test both cars and see which one is winning

...........both cars have been tested by Motor Trend magazine, page 124, April 2005.

G55:
0-60 4.7secs, quatermile 13.2 at 103.2mph

Cayenne Turbo:
0-60 5.1 secs, Quatermile 13.6 secs at 101.8mph.

............anyone familiar with automobile performance will know that 0.4 sec difference in 0-60 is HUGE. Further a 0.4 sec difference in the quatermile is even more significant. The G55 is significantly faster, no serious questions exist about this. Cayenne Turbo owners maybe confused about the official MBUSA performance numbers for the G55 which says 0-60 is 5.5secs. As has been stated in other posts, MB for unclear reasons publishes car performance numbers that are significantly slower than the case the is. Other car makers on the other hand tend to stretch the truth in their favor. Therefore Other car owners always seem to be confused when they realize how fast the MB's actually are. Having settled that, issues such as ride quality, seem to favor the Cayenne Turbo. This again can be remedied by changing the G55 shocks to those from a G500.

Great numbers...I might have to pick up the magazine myself. I am very impressed with Mercedes Benz and how they did the G55. The car sounds so mean, and what more with the supercharger whining :v I must say I am very pleased and like this better then the CT even though neither are broken in. This thing is also a head turner

The G55 would be the strip king and the Cayenne would OWN the track. I have driven both on extended, salesman free test drives where I saw what those babies could do. The G55 feels very tippy to me in transitions and hefty. The Cayenne Turbo felt extremely well planted and (gulp) better in handling than my Clk 430 was. I immediately got a C55 AMG after that and am much happier. Would have been cheaper to change the suspension on the 430, but I figured what the hell? Anyway, that Cayenne Turbo is a monster with well over a hundred horsepower to reliably spare with only a chip. The G55 requires a chip and a pully to get there, maybe headers too, but the ideas is that when you get the extra power the G is pretty close to maxxed out on the truck chassis it is built on. I have to say though that the new R class which was going to be called the new G class (but MB is going to still sell the G in europe and not here, jerks) and give us the bloated MB suburban which now doesn't even have cool military styling (the best part about the G in my opinion). Oh well, keep on kickin' suv butt at the stop lights. If any of you live in the midwest and want to compare the C55 to the G55 Kompressor, let me know. I think it would be fun. Dinner's on me if track gas is on you.

that would seem to confirm everything I have been saying. I think the brake performance of the G55 is most remarkable. Getting all that weight hauled down in only four feet more than my C55. Also to have a G55 as fast as my car to 60 and the quarter, which after I suspect drag would allow me to edge it out. The cayenne is still the corner king of the suv world, and the gwagen is still the drage king of the suv world. Congrats to all.

They Cayenne might be a better handler, but take it off road and the G is way more capable ( all three diffs lock). The Cayenne to me always seemed like a poser SUV, more like a tall station wagon actually. I know its capable of going off road, but compared to the G, its more of an Porsche Allroad Quattro!

I have seen some pretty scary stuff that the Cayenne has tackled. It is at least as capable as the range rover, if not more so. I think it would come down to tires in off-road situations, lockers or no.

If you guys are tracking an SUV, then you've got problems from the get go. Use the CT to haul your track car instead.

Hey, where in so cal are you? I'm in the west la area. I've got a 4.6is and a buddy of mine has a 4.6is with the Dinan supercharger. If you're up for it, I think it'll be interesting to do some runs with all 4 of the cars and compare.

2005 Cayenne has Now has 500HP...So I think straight line it will be faster NOW...

Your Cayenne needs a chip!!! then you'll get 510HP...

In European figs... G55 0-62 in 5.6 and 500HP C Turbo in 5.3...

Why you'd want to buy G- for Drags and Caynne for a track ...

Best handling SUV for track is 4.8i X5!!!

I still love G-wagen, brings old good memories back...Sooo good offroad, no stock 4x4 can keep UP...only Defender...

Althought if I'd to buy powerful 4x4 I'd get a Cayenne, 27 year G-class is old, but classic...

................it is possible that with the added hp, the 2005 Cayenne Turbo will be faster in a straight line. But This cannot be judged by the specs published anywhere by MB. You would have to have both cars physically tested. And so far only April 2005 Motor trend has done so and the G55 was significantly faster. We met with an AMG rep during the amg GTG in Atlanta a few weeks ago. He confirmed that MB publishes performance figures well below true performance of the car. It is most likey that the Porsche's 0-62 figure of 5.3 secs is true but the G55's 5.5 secs is not true.

In the end it doesn't really matter if/that the Cayenne is faster, since it's such an ugly car.

The Rubicon, and older Grand Cherokee will give it a run for its money.
