Was it hard for your dealer to put those door sills in? It took my dealer 2 days... he said it was the first GL he has done it on and that they might not offer it in the future.

Did you have any trouble getting the running boards? My dealer keeps saying that he can't get them.

When I purchased the vehicle, I made a deal with the dealer to install it for free and they agreed......I am glad they did because it took them a day and half to install. They said it's a difficult install and they messed up the door seal. I still have to take it back for them to replace the door seal.

My dealer said they cannot order the running board in the US. He tried to put the part number in, but the system said it's restricted in the US. I ordered it from a Canadian dealer, my cousin in Canada paid for it and shipped it to the US. The Canadian MB dealers will not ship to the US, you have to get a local person there to pick it up. The funny thing is the running board is Made in the USA
Installation is very simple, I installed it myself. It took about 2 hours and the comes with all parts needed (no instructions included, but easy to figure out).

It looks good, but those mud flaps have to go. They kill the look and when the bigger rims are installed the mud flaps are going to look even more out of place.

Yes, I think I'll remove the rears. I had to remove the fronth already because it does not fit with the running board.

Description was "Running Board" and reason was "not availabe in the USA" Shipping and duties were $225 USD. The running board was about $1400USD (around $1800CAD w/taxes).

Looks nice. Personally I'd take off the crossbars as well. They just sit too "high" off the rails.

Otherwise it looks really nice!!

I am not trying to make it a PE. I could have purchased a PE because the dealer had one in stock, but personally we (myself and wife) didn't like the color combination. Price was only about $3000 difference.

There seems to be an interest, by more than a few people, in the PE running boards. Personally, I love them, although I have not figured out the best way to get to Canada, buy them, then have them shipped back to the U.S. Perhaps there is a business opportunity here for some enterprising Canadian.

The biggest reason I like the PE running boards is that they are low profile and don't get in the way like the side step bars can. When getting out of a GL450 with side step bars and you decide to step directly to the ground without using the bar, it is likely your leg will bump in to the rubber step. This makes exiting the vehicle very uncomfortable and quite annoying. Because the PE running boards don't protrude as much, this doesn't happen.
