Thanks. I don't see the fog light trim on that site. There was another site that had both. Any thoughts?

The fins offered by Formymercedes are the best available...don't buy any not made by Schaetz Tuning. His price is also the best I have seen.

As far as the fog light chrome, that is another problem. There is a thread dealing with that problem and may require having the plastic ones chromed.

I found a company that has fog light grilles in crome for 2007 GL 450's. Does anyone know if they will fit on an '08 320 CDI?

No worries with Jerry he's grrrreat. He'll get them to you as soon as he gets his shipment.

p.s. I bought the AMG pedal kit from giorgos on eBay and it looks great (in my closet). He shipped them from Germany and I got them in about two weeks. I'm really digging this purchase. For $70 you can't go wrong. Here's the link for anyone interested (this is for the GL):

I got mine from him also...great service. I purchased the wrong set and he took them back and resent me the GL set. They arrived yesterday and I pick them up this morning at the post office.

We need a picture of that closet patsy...must look like the parts department at a local MB dealer...

What you're looking at there are OE parts for the oval-shaped lights that come with the HID headlights, i.e. steerable fog lights.

These are NOT the round ones you need if yours came with black.

Bad news k1motorsports now says the chrome surround only fits the ML as they just tried it on the GL and it did not work.

I confirmed the same with K1, very disapointing. I ordered the hood fins from formymercedes.com.

Just brought the car home an hour ago, very excited!

Be interested in your comparison with the X5. Where do you commute to...I lived in Maryland a good number of years and commuted to DC. Clinton, Crofton and Annapolis.

I love our 2005 X5, great car. WE have the 4.4 with sport package, 19"rims, black with grey interior, and about every option you can put on it. It was our 2nd black x5 in a row. The x5 is a smaller car that handles better. The x5 is more similar to the ML in size. When we got home tonight the GL was parked next to the x5 in the garage. My wife said, "my car looks tiny", and it did. The GL is much higher. The X5 feels a little more sporty, i think it is because it sits a lot lower and has a very tight feel to the steering. I will try to give more detailed comparision once I am more familiar with the GL. The x5 drives more like a car, the GL more like a truck. neither is better, just different.

The navagation in my 2004 BMW 545 blows the unit in the GL away. better grafics and way easier to use with the idrive. The Nav in this 08 GL is about the same as a nav in my mothers inlaws 2002 s500. They desperately need an upgrade. It is about the same as th X5 nav.

I live in Baltimore county and commute to Wilmington Delaware everyday. I don't hit much trafiic, but it is a lot of miles. That is why I bought a diesel. The X5 gulps gas. It is a 1/4 tank each way. I really don't care about the money that much, I just hate to get gas every other day. This diesel should give me more a much further range.

Congrats Canvasback on your new ride.

With that commute, I can't wait to hear your impressions after driving it for awhile. I gotta say, you've got one brutal commute, regardless if there is no traffic. Thankfully, you've got some great rides to try and make it manageable.

CONGRATS, canvasback. Don't feel bad about the runs to the garage. It's a common condition with a lot of GL owners Enjoy the ride and post some pics.

Back in October, I found a company at www.cvvacuumplaters.com and/or www.specialtychromedplastics.com who quoted me a price of $75 to $85 plus shipping to chrome the standard, black plastic fog lamp surrounds that are on so many of our trucks. I sent them a digital photo to show them what the light and cover (surround) looks like. I haven't quite decided yet, but I'm getting closer to buying an additional set of covers (only $15 - $20 per cover) and sending them out for chroming. I'm trying to decide whether to go through with it, or be patient and hope an after market company will eventually have them available.

Chrome Fog Lights

Did anyone solve the chrome fog light issue?

I found the actual cornering fog lights for about $81 each (without the cover I think - they are opening on Monday and I can find out exactly).

Thanks!

I just sent a new pair of the black plastic surrounds to the company I mentioned in my post #21 of this thread. They will chrome them for me and ship them back in about 3 weeks. I'll post pics once they are on my vehicle.
BTW, my dealer said the chrome surrounds for the cornering fog lamps are $69.00 ea. Part numbers - 164-880-07-24 and 164-880-08-24.

You hit the nail right on the head with the X5 vs GL description. I sold my 2005 4.4 X5 a few months ago.

Did you have to explain to them to chrome only the circular opening and the two side stripes and leave the rest of the rectangle black, or they already knew what is needed. Thanks!
