ordering MB parts. running boards

Hi,

I want to order the PE running boards for my GL. My dealer wants $1088 for these + tax and labor. I think I can install them myself. Now too bad for my dealer... but I am willing to go an extra mile to savea couple of hundreds. I know they have a HUGE margin on parts (over 50%).
I saw a price of $750 on this forum. Anyone who can help or is willing to sell to me? Part number 6-6-88-0630. I might order the chrome roof rails as well.

a happy new year to all
Thanks, Bart

That is a good price even from the dealership. When I ordered my GL 320 CDI I put most options on it except for the distronic and the running boards as I thought the tubular side steps would look better and sportier. I have a 1999 ML 430 with this stainless steel tubular side steps and have liked it. But now I regret not ordering it with the running boards as I saw that it does complete the look. My wife still thinks that the tubular side steps would look better so we cannot decide which to put in.
Now with regards to the chrome roof rails, that will be a big job replacing it. Search for a thread here a couple of months ago. I know I have done it although not with the chrome roof rails but with the black ones as when they delivered my car it had damage on the roof rail and dealer has to change it.

i went thro' the same thought process before buying mine last week. Finally, I got it for the same price from the dealer. However, I did negotiate in the labor for install.
It's my understanding that the tube/rails are bolted to the chassis of the GL. So, is simpler to install. The running boards are more elegant looking, and is more complex to install, since it blends into the body of the GL.
Good luck!

Can anyone help me find running boards for my 2007 ML320 CDI. the dealer wants $1589.00 total. This sounds a little pricey. They are supposed to be Chrome running boards but you know how people say things are chrome. The chrome is plated and then it is over stainless steel anyways.
The board that comes with the car...if you have one...you know....is black color. I have a little difficult time getting in on my bad days...i am only 5'1 so i hope you understand...and i am not young anymore.....just SEASONED!
thanks

$1589 installed out the door is not bad. There is not a huge margin in the running board. The cheapest you can get is $950. I have one contact. I will post it tomorrow.

Here is another non-tubular option that i have on my GL. I really like them and they come color-matched.

Hey frabouden, those look great! IMO, the best of all options I've seen so far. Can you share some info on what brand they are, where you got them, how much you paid?

Thanks!

Hello New02c32...
Yes they are great looking. maybe we can get enough people on this forum to do a group thing like the other person did. i have a website where i saw them and i believe this is correct.
check out runningboardpros.com...there are instructions on how to install also. i will be looking to get someone in texas. Let's keepthis going and maybe we can save a few bucks.

we can go back and set-up a GB again on these if it looks like we have enough people - they should be around $1,250, painted and shipped - if so, i will request permission on this forum to set it up.

thank you for the information. I really like the other ones that are painted with the car color. I will followup on this if no one in the group wants to order the other ones...that we got permission to group order.

Dude that's your choice but there is no comparison with the OEM running board vs the painted ones mentioned here. I've had tabular style running board and i replaced them with the OEM and my ride looks awson.

vinnyG,
look at the message from FRABOUDEN back a few months ago....he sent a picture of the best looking running boards. I would like to get a group to order these for a discount...if you are interested leave a message at the group board...it has been approved for us to do this.
these are the best i have ever seen and it looks more like made for MB even though MB does not make them. I did check out the website and want to get this one badly for my ML320 CDI...it would be sharp!!!!
take a look
