Here are some pics of my V1 I just had hard wired. I wanted them to put it in the rear view mirror, but they said if they cracked open the mirror I would lose the auto dim feature. So they installed a small pod display above the mirror, it has a volume controll by the cup holders, and a kill switch for the laser diffusers. I went with the blinder extremes in the front bumper. Sorry for crapy pics i just went in to the garage to snap them real quick.

i have the new escort with GPS... marks trap locations (camera, tolls, donuts, etc).. then warns u when they are approaching.
also, when you are alerted, it will tell you the speed you were going. Auto LED controls, Auto volume, remote mute ,etc. I love it.
It will usually detect a mile away or more in some cases. Saves me plenty of $$

I prefer the risk of driving without a detector but if I did put one in, I would want the info on how yours was done. A really nice install and love the monitor next to the mirror.

houston rider---i am considering the escort 9500, mostly becauseof what i have read about the gps component and the ability to minimize(to some degree) the false positive warnings.
is it hardwired?
the wiring and potential clutter is a concern.
i have also read about the escort(battery-operated) solo---for the least hassle.
thank you

smayshusband - great pics, thanks for sharing. Nice install! The v1 is indeed a life saver and once you live with the bogie counter, you can't do without. Gives you a great feel for the road (has also saved me many times). Assume your install voided all warranties and makes getting a firmware update from Valentine impossible?
RE passport, I've read that the passport gps has a line of site issue - needs to be up front in your dash to ensure it sees satellites. Is that true? any prblms aqcuiring?

In my "detector" days, I never got a warning even if I was 5mph above the limit. If you're "clocked" (as opposed to "radar-ed" or "laser-ed" and how your speed is checked by air) and you're a little above, you might get nothing and you might get a warning. Unless you have a detector, which tells the cops you intend on breaking the law by speeding. That tends to **** them off, which, as a rule, I try to avoid doing. I know where and when I can move along at high speeds and where and when I cannot. (And should not!) Beyond that, just plan more time man!

The battery-powered Escort--Solo--works fine and there is no installation hassle.

The trick with any radar detector is to drive like you DON'T have one. Have the detector on all the time, but use your eyes and use your head as your first line of defense. Use the detector as your backup.
