Fuel Tank Capacity

Does anyone know what the fuel tank capacity is in the GL320 CDI?

US gallons or liters?

I've gotten more than 25 gallons in there when it's way empty. It appears that the volume of the tank is different from the specifications as listed on MBUSA (Which I think listed it at 20 gallons. Yahoo lists it at 26.4 gallons. emercedesbenz.com lists it at 100l with a 13l reserve, which is 26.4 with 3.4 reserve - where's the "reserve" tank?) I thought at first that I was being ripped off by my gas station, but got similar results from widely separated stations.

All GL-Class have 26.4 gallon tanks. This includes a reserve of 3.4gal.

Good to hear from you Fahrer. I've got a silly add-on question for you...

When the fuel light appears in the dash, does this mean that I have 3.4 gallons remaining? And, if I ran the tank completely dry, then it would take the full 26.4 gallons to fill her back up?

I tend to run mine a bit after the reserve light kicks in. I once hit another screen which equates to "almost bone dry". The most I have ever pulled from my local tap - 26.384 gallons. I think the capacity of the tank, as most have previously mentioned, is 26.4 gallons.

That's the one on the mileage display, where it says "Range" and then just has a picture of a gas pump, yeah? Seen it.

Thanks guys,

I got ahold of a 2008 owner's manual online and found out that the vehicle has a 100 liter tank (including reserve, I think).

THe GL320 I drove Saturday was showing 12.2/100 km after an hour of city driving. That translates to about 19 mpg (US) for a city range of 800 km's (500 miles).

Highway mileage (just 1/2 hour driving) was 9.4L/100 KM which translates to 25 mpg (US) for a highway range of about 1,100 km's (660 miles).

If this is real world mileage, it is pretty good for any vehicle (better than a Toyota Sienna minivan) and excellent for a larger SUV.

I wonder if the Bluetec will suffer in the fuel mileage department.
