09 vs 08 navigation/ entertainment
My local dealer is somewhat clueless about electronics.
Can anyone tell me the difference in the 09 navigation and dvd system vs 08. I heard you can play dvd while in park in 09. Also there is an sd slot and about 3gb of storage. Can it play anything else beside mp3's? Any divx capabilities? jpg's?
Is the nav that muh better?

09 has voice recognition and did away with the "soft" buttons on the side on the NAV that were used in 08 and before. 09 will play dvds in park (not sure if 08 will). I think there were some general improvements in the NAV as well regarding graphics, etc - but I havent played with the '08...from what I understand it's a dramatic improvement (although even the '09 could stand to have a few more features in the NAV that would put it closer in line with Japanese counterparts..
'09 has HDD and previous models do not.
I believe SD card only plays .mp3 format songs, but IPOD adaptor allows for playing of Itunes song stored on your Ipod.

I disagree, the nav in our '09 gl320 is FAR superior to the nav in our '05 e320 cdi and in my aunt's '08 ml550.
The addition of the COMAND knob instead of the buttons on the head unit would make the interface considerably better. But the buttons are definitely better than the retarded joystick that came in the SUV's until '08

does the changer play dvd movies? Will it play it both in the front (in park) and in the rear? If so, can the movie be played in the front while the rear play a different disc?
Any possibility of adding a TV tuner?

You can play different up front than in rear - you can also send 1 movie from front to either L or R rear monitor while the other rear monitor can display a different movie at the same time, which is a nice feature if you have two people in the back that want to watch two different things.
Another big plus on 2009 RSE is that headphones are wireless, where previous years were wired

09 nav is far superior to the 08 DVD NAV
- Maps are better in nav and birds eye view is available
- Maps load faster due to hard drive
- Voice control accepts words and dosent require you to spell stuff
- Zagat guide (i dont know how usefull but it is there)
- Blue tooth connectivity is better. Address book loads faster and phone hooks up instantly every time
- DVD playback in headunit while in park
- I pod controls in Command * the Best improvement IMHO
- Music register
- SD card does not require MB adapter
Pretty much makes command current with the S, E & C without the rotatory control mechanism
