Tire/Wheel Question....And Another!!

Ok, I know that there are thousands of questions and answers on tire and wheel sizing, but I don't recall anyone asking about this specific size.

OE is 19" x 8.5" using 275/55/19 or 20" x 8.5" using 275/50/20.

If we are going to 20" x 8/5" ET 56 (OE wheel) can we use 285/50/20 tires?

I know it will be a little larger diameter, but has anyone used this size? Any problem with this size? Speedometer issue? It's like 0.4" difference. Anyone have any tires they recommend, there are a lot more options out there.

Thanks and sorry for adding another to the tire question pile!

You may use this calculator to see problem possibility.

I don't think you will have any problem with 285/50/20. The difference is minimal.

You should be fine with a slightly larger (0.4") overal diameter and your speedometer will be 1.3% faster, which is fine as well. You will have a few more "cheaper" tire option in this size. The first tire comes to mind is the Yokohama Parada Spec-X....excellent tire with tons of tread life (420AA) and very inexpensive.

Haha, it was raining all day today but managed to take a few pics from my Torch. My 22's are AMG replicas similar to a couple of members here...nothing special.

Uploading as we speak....

Thanks for the input from everyone. It seems that the tire size difference shouldn't impact much at all.

With everyone's experience likely more than mine with the GL, if you were going to use a "non MO" spec tire would you opt for a 285/50/20 or 265/50/20? Load ratings are all above spec, and H speed rating should be fine (not planning too many 130mph excursions!). Only difference could be the overall dimensions in the wheel well.

I'd use 285/50/20. I think wider is better...

295/45-20 has almost the perfect diameter.

Yes, but I'm using 20 x 8.5 wheels. That's why I'm limited to 265, 275, or 285 width.

Going with Michelin

All set for install next week. Going with OE 20" wheels and TPMS system and decided on 285/50/20 Michelin Latitude Tour HP tires. I've had good experiences with the Michelins on the R class and other cars. Actually had the winters on our ML also. Hopefully no one is going to tell me horror stories with them on the GL! V speed rating by the way and all the specs are above OE levels on the Conti 4x4s.

I'll post before and after pics after it's done.
