Ordered GL 500, told 6 month wait??????

Hi guys, I have ordered a GL500 start of April and was told delivery would be July. Today I was told the build date will be August with delivery end of September.

Can anyone confirm if it would take that long?

Or is my dealer playing tricks?

I am in australia.

Thanks

We ordered a GL350 2 months ago that was supposed to be built May 1 and its still not built, so i dont think the Dlr is telling you any stories. It better be worth the wait is all i can say.

I don't understand why does it take so long for MB to build a car. Friend of mine ordered BMW X5, it took them about 6 weeks and the car was in his driveway.

There are a bunch of things affecting their production...... some of the electronics comes from Japan AND the tornadoes in Alabama came very close to the plant and I am sure that while the planat suffered no damage.... various kinds of support industries did.

Also keep in mind your timing is getting close to the 2012 cutoff point - hence not sure if the plant is going on any shutdown for potential retooling.

An early morning tornado f3 came close enough to the plant to peel part of the roof back--this was about 12 hours before the monster devastating tornado that hit Tuscaloosa later that day. Supplier plants were without power that day and couldn't get necessary parts to the plant that day. The next day, the MB plant didn't have power plus while no employees got killed by the storms, many couldn't get out of their neighborhoods due to the hundreds of downed trees or they were helping neighbors in the recovery efforts. MB also closed the plant Friday of that week, so there were 3 days of lost production. They are adding an extra shift next Saturday to try to catch back up on production.

My GL350 May 1 production is now May 24. They are probably going to lose a customer over this.

Honestly with all the stuff going on down there it would be a bit short-sighted to walk away from your ordered car at this point, luckily with domestic production you should have your car in early June. BTW, did you order something not very common? They are in short supply but usually there is a car or two out there that will work for most people.

It didnt seem uncommon to me. GL350 with P1,full leather with heated and vented seats, heated rear seats, lighting pkg, diamond white paint, parktronic, heated steering wheel, no running boards, Trailer hitch. Those were the options we wouldnt do without. There were cars that had other options but missing some we wanted. We will wait for it but it frustrates me that it takes them this long.

2011 GL350
Hm.. I e-mailed MBUSI (The Alabama Plant where GL is made) and they told me that they only lost like 2 days of production. My 2011 GL350 build date is still 6/15/11.
What does build date mean anyway?
Does that mean the car is BUILT completely, or is it just the car is starting to be built?

Should mean that it is scheduled to come off the production line that day.

Hi I ordered GL350 Bluetec in December1,2010.
Was promised to have the car by mid March 2011.
It is mid May 2011 and still nothing.
First excuse was car manufacturing delay.
Now last 3 weeks car was manufactured you will have it next week.
Already heard that 3 times.
Don't believe anymore what is true.
Getting ready to get something else and give up.
Tomorrow I am going to look for other options lost trust at the dealer.

You are in Canada, customs can slow things down. My wife drove her new BMW Nov 2 in Munich and didn't receive it until the second week of Jan.

Yes I got update today.
My car got affected by the tornado and did not left the factory.
Apprently it should now be shipped next week.
I am very dissapointed because my sales person was telling me that car was already on the train.
I have a feeling that our car got damaged a little bit a they fixed it or it got damaged a lot
and they manufactured new one.
I don't know to whom to trust anymore.
Does anyone got the same news?
Thanks for any news

Leo, your wifes BMW had to ride the slow boat to get here, ours only have to come from Alabama and it takes longer to get a MB.

For whatever reason the car spent 2 weeks in Long Beach in customs, possibly because it was driven in Germany. Two month wait after driving the car was very painful.

It would be my "guess" that there's no such thing as a single car shipment from Alabama to Australia. Rather, I'd expect yours to be combined with a larger order from MB of Australia. Given that, I'd say there's no standard time.
