Illuminated Star is on !! who said it is impossible ? Took me 30 min to install...

Can you just tap into parking light wire? Got one and it has 1 red wire and one black. tested on 12v battery and lights up.
Is the emblem the same size from the x164 GL450 and GL550? I've been tinkering about the idea of installing the illuminated emblem and stumbled on this thread. There's a lot of less expensive ones nowadays on Amazon and eBay. So basically anything that fits a GL class X166 should fit with a little modification on our x164 GL550?

Yes it will fit with a little adjustment, you may have to cut the casing to squeeze it in, but it will fit nicely. You might want to put some silicon to seal it thru. I did mine a while ago and I don't know if later production of the star were made any brighter, it only needs to be a bit brighter. Its easy to remove the original star, when unscrewing use a padded cloth so as not to mark the star.
Yeah but you have a GL350... I think the GL550 is a different size. I may be wrong because I'm new with this too, but I've been doing a lot of research and comparing pictures. The x164 GL550 has a 9" star and I think the other GL's have a 7" star, which is why the newer emblems fit because it's still the same size. I posted some pictures from my prebprev post for reference
Hi, I had to add a little more velcro, but your absolutely correct they are a lifesaver. My friend left a 5lb bag of ice in the bag, and it melted... all fluid caught in the tray... disaster averted....

I came across this old post of your about replacing the grill star emblem on your 2012 GL450. Your post has been the only one I've been able to find where this was successfully completed. As a matter of fact I haven't been able to find a post on how to remove the darn thing. My question is did you replace it with a star that was fitted for a 2013 GL450 (X166) if so was it OEM or aftermarket?

Also you can go with weathertech + MB floor mats... don't look to bad, any sugestion?
The Weathertech definitely look like a better fit/quality. The thing about all these protectors is they hide what you are trying to protect. And, in my view, they turn the luxury look into a utility look. So, I think putting the carpeted floor mats over the protective mats helps and, of course, they can easily be taken out when driving in bad weather or where they are likely to get dirty. That said, I do have a pet cover on my second row seats and cargo area. But floor mats can more readily be replaced if they get too dirty or damaged to clean.
It is alot of concern about GL550 wheels on a GL450, difference is GL550 have a fender flares also offset of wheels are a little dfferent (+/- 7), after replace the GL450 wheels for a GL550 this is the result... I don't think I need a feder flares..
I agree. I think the flares are more for appearance purposes - more aggressive and call attention to wider stance of the tires. But I think it looks better without the flares.
