OK, I have searched through a lot of the forum and have seen lots of posts with no definite answer......

CAN VOICE RECOGNITION BE ADDED?

I have the buttons on the wheel and they do function to answer the phone, so I know they are working on the network. I have nav and a Bluetooth phone.

I have a Module 2048202085 What looms are needed and how to install if it is possible?

I had a 2007 GL in the same condition and was told that it couldn't be done. I'm not sure if that was the dealer didn't 'want' to do it, or if it truly isn't possible.

Likely didn't want to as just about anything can be added with the proper looms and modules!

What did you pay for the module.
Mine was equipped from the factory, but is not working.
I am assuming the module is dead.

$12 on eBay. New in a sealed box complete with MB labels.

I don't have the pictures now, but it is under the drivers side second row seat.
There is a cover you remove to get access to a bunch of electronics.

It is hard to see because it is mounted under other modules.

I have not started removing anything to gain access yet.

I don't think that is the right module.

This is the E-Call phone module not the Ligutronic voice control module.

Yep, that is the actual cellular phone box for the e-call system.
I guess you are in the UK, since our shipping is $75

The voice control module seems to be language specific, and has different model numbers between vehicle model even in the same market.
What I have not been able to determine is if they are interchangeable,

There are a lot of E500 W211 modules out there, compared to GL/ML/R modules.

If your Mbrace or other e-call already works, you have that module.

It works. I just went by what I could find on line and that is not much......

Years ago, I was the Product Manager for that group at Motorola (before it was sold to Continental).

I bet they were expecting a lot of older analog cars to upgraded to digital. (bet very few did)

Seems like they run about $50 to $450.

I was trying to find a friend from my old group to help me, but all I got was the fact they threw hundreds of them into the crusher when they transferred to operation to Continental.

The Ligtronic unit was made first by Daimler Aerospace (AKG), then Temic.

Motorola only had them to test various configurations of phone, E-call, and command.

As soon as I have a free afternoon, I am going to pull mine out and check the sticker.

I really want mine to work, since the car was originally equipped that way.
It was dead when I got the GL, and the previous owner said he did not know because he never used it.
I am guessing I have all the parts and hoped it was something easy like programming or a loose connector.
The dealer wants 1 hour to diagnose it which is more then some modules off ebay, as soon as I can tell which module is the right one (like by reading the sticker on mine) I will start the search for cheap one. (Under $50 I hope)
