2008 GL 320 CDI - Tailgate problem
Hi,
My GL 320 CDI has the auto tailgate. Recently had a problem closing the gate (lock unable to engaged when closed) but it sort of resolved itself. Now it can lock but unable to open. I have to go into the car and manually unlock it.
After I did some research on this forum, my guess is the hatch lock need to be replaced. But I have no idea on the following:
1) where to buy the parts (apart from MB, but they want ridiculous price)
2) I can't seems to find any illustrated instruction (video or pics) on how to remove the necessary panels to gain access to the hatch lock
3) Not 100% sure if only the hatch lock need to be replaced?
If anyone would have some information/experience can be provided would highly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Out Of Control!!
If you do a search, there are a few write-ups.
I think most of the MB parts sellers can get the latch, and everyone says it is not a hard job to replace.

My problem is I can't even open up the "panels".
There is a thread here has a detail write up and I have read it. But I am just one of those cannot digest on words but has to see/illustrated.
Sigh......

You can try looking at the parts pictures and maybe buying one of the WIS programs off ebay, but I find the pictures lacking.
Maybe AllDataDIY?

Hmm... what is WIS and AllDataDIY?
I am actually quite new to all these thing. But I realise that unless I am super rich, otherwise I will have to learn how to DIY with the European branded cars.
I assume the above are some kind of cheat sheets?

gl 320 2008 tail gate will not close
My gl320 now with about 120K miles is having problems when I try to close the tailgate, will open fine but will not close all the way, is like if the hydraulic pump is low in fluid, when I do it manually the latch will engage and stay close, it started few weeks ago, out of ten times the hatch will close 3, but now is just moving down few inches and stop..

I had this issue. Eventually it wouldn't lock at all anymore. Replaced the latch and all was good. The part wasn't that expensive. around 150 at the dealer
Changing it was easy. No diy needed. Just remove panels. Make sure u use plastic panel popers so you dont scratch the paint. Once panels are off. Its only 3 screws I believe. And that's its. Took about 45 min to do.
Good luck
