Is there a way to turn off front 12v power socket when ignition turns off

My dash cam in 2007 GL450 was previously connected to center lighter power socket. It used to turn off when ignition would be off. But now I have moved dash cam from center of windshield to passenger corner of windshield. The closest connection now is the power socket under glove box. But now I have noticed that it stays on all the time.
A quick search through manual indicated that that front and rear power sockets are supposed to be hot all the times unless a significant drop in battery voltage is detected.
My question is that is there a way to program these power sockets to turn off once ignition is turned off. My 02 Town and Country has a setting in fuse box where switching the fuse to adjacent place make certain socket to stay on/off. Is something such option available in GL450 ?

Although I had solved the problem back then by extending the wire from central console 12V socket. But just wanted to bump this question to see if any new on this forum knows.
I have searched but nothing came up regarding how to make it happen. There are some threads where they talk about changing fuse positions in other Mercedes but nothing about GL 450. Following thread talks about ML in previous generations. Not sure if it will be applicable to to GL.

not possible without rewiring (ie extending the central socket 12v to the one under the glove compartment)

Just wait ... it will automatically turn off after some delay. Kind of like if you leave your tailgate open for an extended period and the interior lights time out.

Correct. All interior lights and 12v sockets time out after about 20-30 minutes.

Note this my experience with an ML not a GL, running a car fridge in the rear. I now have a second battery and don't have to worry about it anymore.

I can't speak for the front outlets, but the power socket in the rear compartment will turn off after 20 minutes - as you say - if there is no load on it.

However, if there is an electrical load on the socket, it will not time out, and remains powered until the main battery voltage drops to a critical point. The ECU will only then cut power to the socket.

YMMV.

yes, it doesn't turn off automatically under load. I remember last year when I posted above question, I went out to check in middle of night, and my Dash Cam was still recording at 12am.

depends on the load. my experience is that a webcam does not generate sufficient load to keep socket alive.

Pretty smart of mercedes, so you don't end up with a dead battery. Wonder how many other cars do this today?

so, in the 1990s German regulations specified that automotive wiring harnesses be biodegradable. Concurrently, manufacturers were facing problems with vehicle weight. This led Bosch (it’s always Bosch) to develop CANBus systems for automotive applications. Simplistically, what a particular wire transmits in terms of voltage and which of several components it’s connected to is activated is computer controlled. Pretty easy, then, to add a timer function or a voltage check function. Your wiring is now carrying instructions as well as voltage.

One example of CANBus action occurs on my BMW motorcycle. It has a single, single filament bulb serving as both taillight and brakelight ... it depends on the voltage the controller sends it whether it’s bright enough to be a brake light. Two functions in one wire.

I’d assume all German cars for sure ... and who cares about anything else!
