So I have a humming noise coming from the rear that I assume is wheel bearings. Has anyone had bearing issues on there x164 ? I am at 128k miles. The noise has been present for at least 10k miles and does not seem to be getting worse. Possibly rear diff bearings ?
many advice is helpful here.

Sounds around the time my right rear wheel bearing bit the dust. Haven't had to replace any others so far with 250k+ miles.

how did you determine it was that bearing ? Originally Posted by BlownV8

It got louder and louder by the day until is was a full roar. I wouldn't wait because it can destroy your hub.

sure but mine has not changed for a year. Same low humming noise so I’m not sure it’s a bearing. Originally Posted by BlownV8

be sure, otherwise your hub will self-machine itself to ever widening clearances.

I Will have to inspect more closely. Tires have been replaced during this time and the sound did not change. Originally Posted by Max Blast

Hi
Yes i had the problem and i replaced it by myself. I got ABS and ESC light on dash.
My scenner gave me a code for fault speed sensor and check the bering weel warning.
The cost was a 120 bucks and about 3 hours of work. You need to rent the Bearing pressing toolkit and buy balljoint seporator.
There are a lot of shops they have a press as well.
i orderd the National bearing from Auto Parts .Replaced, sensor working properly no annoying noise anymore no ligts on dash.
if you are familiar with some of mechanical work it shouldn't be a problem at all.

I have the same problem with my 2011 GL550, a humming noise coming from the rear.....I think its the right rear, but not 100%. I too am thinking its a bearing going out. I am going to check my rear diff fluid first, but pretty sure it makes sense I need new bearings. I tow an 8000 lbs boat and I run spacers, so sure its a bearing.

let me know how it turns out for you. I haven’t done anything with mine but I am going to change the rear diff fluid as well first. Originally Posted by Iceytys
