Fender Flares for the GL450
This is my first post here. I'm a new owner of a '16 GL450. I love the look of the fender flares for the 550/63. I have done some searching for adding the fender flares, but can't seem to find anything for the X166 model. There are plenty of posts about people doing this for the X164, but I can't find any where someone has tried this for the X166.
It looks like Mercteil sells the fender flares. http://www.mercteil.com/en/products/...s-set-for-x166 But they seem very different from the X164 flares because they don't seem to include a flare portion for the front bumper or rear bumper. The old model included a small piece that covered the bumpers. Would these work on the GL450? I don't want to buy the entire front/rear bumper but if these stop and don't include a flare extender for the bumper, I would think it would look very odd... Am I missing something? Can you add fender flares to the GL450?
Thoughts or help here would be greatly appreciated!
I also have looked & looked for "items i.e.: bumpers, flares, front spoilers etc., to improve the somewhat sterile GL350/450 exterior, especially when compared to the GL550/GL63's.
There are many more aftermarket x164 exterior "kits" and/or upgrades, probably because prior to the 2013 x166's, the x164 GL320's, GL450 & GL550 look basically alike, so there are/were more customers to market to, and there wasn't yet an AMG GL to replicate.
IMHO, the next-best-thing that improves/changes the look of the GL320/450's is installing a set of nice wheels / rims. The more the offset is closer to the GL550/GL63's the more aggressive the stance.
Hopefully, I will get to have mine installed by next week.
Yes - there are Chian produced kits for the change over - I personally don't know anyone who has gone thru that process - which is a particular challenge if you have Parktronic for remounting and realignment of sensors - and rear remounting of Blind Spot Assist..
Frankly, the W166 is NOT a W164...

The inner fenders of the GL550/GL63 are no more spacious than the GL320/GL450's. The AMG fender extensions are more aesthetic than functional, as the fenders and rear quarter panels are the same on ALL.

Regarding your original post - I saw either on this forum or on Ebay ( don't remember exactly) a post of the guy who is selling the whole front and rear bumper assembly for GL550 with all DRLs and other stuff attached to it already. They are even already painted, but were took off from assembly line because of some small defects. I think the guy has access to the factory and buys them for resell. It was $2500 each, so you'd need 2 plus whatever flares and wheels cost. The only one question I would ask - BUT WHY ? Why haven't you bought GL550 ?
P.S. Found "the guy ". It's here : https://mbworld.org/forums/gl-class-...350-550-a.html
