Got really lucky, all emission parts replaced by dealer

So I called in my local dealer to ask about a service....my first ever call after buying a 105k driven but well maintained GL.... the advisor asked me for vin and told me that there is emissions recall... I told him what is that and he told me I get all emissions parts replaced for free......wow, I said that must be expensive... he said yeah and we will perform all sensors, SCR, nox, dpf filter and thermostat.....
......thought I should share this so that all can call in to their local dealers
I am in California by the way so may not apply to all states...not sure

Uh, yeah, about that….

It’s acatuly a well documented settlement with the DOJ and EPA in the USA (and CARB in CA). You should have received notice in the mail, but if you are a new owner its possible that you were missed.

There is also a separate class action legal settlement that you may be able to participate in depending on when you took ownership. For example, original owners will receive nearly $4K from MB and Bosch. It’s less for previous or secondary owners.

Any person buying a used auto, should fill out the "change of owner" form in the warranty book, and send it to M-B (or any manufacturer for that matter.
Then you will get notifications of recalls and other such information.

If the car didn't come with a form or warranty book, go to the dealer, who also has those forms. They may be able to enter your car without mailing the form.

Do they actually warranty the entire engine?

ok great, I will take this up with dealer....wondering if they have said that there is no rattling then how will they take it for timing chain?
also, the recall letters said if the parts are damaged from emissions ,not necessarily all parts, only then they will be replaced? So how to prove that all parts included in the letter needs to be changed? Cos I also see injectors but the dealer did not touch them in my case

They are not going to replace any of the other items until there is a problem. You may have to wait until winter for them to hear it rattle. Go to the diesel section to read more about your warranty and timelines.

So I got AEM done last week on my 2013 GL350, it has 108k miles....here are the things I noticed:

-
1. car is running but hotter, gets to 90 degree really quick after the cold start as compared to before

2. the response seems much better on the throttle, picks really good and runs smoother

3. The mpg on the display has improved a lot, I used to get 24 mpg on highway, now got 28mpg on the same route

4 however, the disturbing thing is that in 400 miles of driving after the AEM, on two different occasions and after the approximately 7-8 minutes of cold start....I got sudden power loss while starting off on a signal stop....like the rpm goes suddenly down as if the engine has stalled and then comes back up....so like if I picked up from dead stop, the rpm raises litttle above 2k and then sudden drops to 1k and then goes back up.....I have contacted the dealer and they yet have to come back on this.....has anyone else experienced that?????

#1 and #2? Absolutely. But I'd describe it not really really as running hotter but coming up to temperature much quicker. NVH and drivability have improved noticeably so it's a pleasant improvement.

#3? My first tank has been 100% city driving (which is not typical) but so far I've seen the mileage decrease slightly. I'm looking forward to an upcoming road trip to see what happens.

#4? I've never seen anything like that. Ever. Take the truck back and have them fix it as something is obviously wrong.

forgot to mention that I flushed the transmission fluid right after the AEM, which I did previously as well with same process....never had this issue after the transmission service....so that’s why I believe it could not be transmission cos also if something wrong with transmission then it should be happening always not intermittently???? But may be someone else experienced this after the transmission fluid flush????

the power loss so sudden that it feels like someone hit me from the back....and one of the times the cars behind me almost did cos I picked up and suddenly stopped....the dealer now says I did something wrong in the transmission flush....

just had mine done as well. I had a pretty large oil leak so got that done as well. That cost me $3,600 but at least it's done now and they changed every gasket including turbo seals. Somehow they broke my windshield while working on it but they were really good about replacing it quickly.

Seems that the car accelerates better, and maybe even gets better mileage. I have a very heavy foot so it's hard to tell if the mpg has increased. One thing that I've noticed is that it does seem to be louder at idle with a low pitch rumble which appears to come from the end of the exhaust. Also, there seems to be a very faint ticking sound that sounds much like a lifter. Lastly, when sitting in the passenger seat, I can feel a vibration under hard acceleration coming from the floorboard in the area of the transmission mound/hump on the floor.

all in all, I'm happy that they fixed everything because my bluetec system had failed ( the tank heater) and a nox sensor was bad. For my car, a 2014 GL350, they say there were only 3 things that needed to be done and one was a software upgrade. However, after the work was completed, many more items such as the timing chain, turbo, etc are covered. The tank heater was replaced as one of those items

love that I have no CELs, no leaks, and everything seems to be ok, in addition to many major components being covered under warranty.

For $3600, what was the breakdown of work done?
Thanks…

So, the timing chain is covered under the settlement? Anyone has a link to this info? Thanks.

I've read some of those. Could not find anything regarding timing chain coverage.

On the main settlement website there all all sorts of documents. Here’s the coverage for the 2014-2016 X166s so if you have a 2013 you’ll have to sort for it yourself, but it’s there someplace.
