I think Sam has a very useful suggestion - and about the only way a dealer could be approached to ship a non-market-area customer - if you're willing to pop $12K-$15K over - and NOT export - this would be one of the very few ways - both the Steel Grays are listed for end-mar production..

No no, definitely not an exporter! Just a dad (like many of you) whose wife requires him to drive a vehicle with a third row (four kids), and the GL63 is the top of that food chain. I'm in Iowa, holding a spot on the waiting list at a Chicago-area AMG PC, and very impatient as well as pessimistic about how long I'll have to wait if I don't do something aggressive. Not exactly rational, I know.
Fab, do you think it's realistic that my local dealer or the Chicago AMC PC might be able to orchestrate a trade if I'm willing to pay for it? Are you able to tell me which two dealerships have the steel grey slots? I'm definitely happy to go to the dealership in person or have my local dealer vouch for me.

What kind of headliner is in the GL63? Alcantra? or Dinamica?

I just heard back from my dealer. They say I am a 3/30 build but cars won't be released until end of June. I will get my PO by end of the month. Has anyone heard the same?

I thought there is no 3/30 build. I think the dealer is giving you a runaround. There are 2 builds 3/21 and 5/1. Maybe Fab can confirm or refute this.

For USA as far as I can tell: 18 scheduled 3/21 (3rd decade March) and 17 scheduled 5/1 (1st decade) May ....
What some dealers may or may not have said doesn't necessarily fit the facts at the moment..

I have ordered 2 -GL63 amgs for 2 of my clients . Diamond white with Designo black leather with piano blk trim . The quilted pattern. AMG performance steering wheel. Red brake calipers.
I work for dealer in the Bay Area. AMG Performance Center.
The diamond pattern is x-11 in GL63AMG . same option X-11 in designo for the Gl550.

i'm sure quilted looks nice- but i prefer classic MB german seats with standard straight lines- feels original, without designo on the seats... not sure of you can badge delete the designo..?

For the group - I recall offhand at very most there was only one dealer who had two -that means at least 33 were "solitaires" meaning only one at most to a dealer.
I had breifly looked at the multiple thing to see if there was any pattern - off the record confirmations on G-Wagens can be sometimes influenced by "who" the customer is from a VIP=ball player/media standpoint.
Yes pattern is X-Quilt/Diamond - again my personal opinion summary - Black Designo is super-rich-sexy look/feel and fabulous Piano Lacquer match Porcelain Designo looks/feels a bit "dry" to me (I would choose to nourish it with Leatherique it right away), the Auburn is a stunningly rich brown with a solid 1st class almost Brit-like smooth hide feel - for me in Auburn the pattern is a bit too much in this color but heck you will be sitting in it.
On the Designo badging, any decent vinyl wrap shop can "print" and "wrap" the Designo badge in color with your logo/initials/name for individualization.
I had breifly looked at the multiple thing to see if there was any pattern - off the record confirmations on G-Wagens can be sometimes influenced by "who" the customer is from a VIP=ball player/media standpoint.

Fab - I think the discussion was the quilted designo pattern in the GL63 instead of the standard designo pattern

i honestly like the standard designo amg decal look much better, the white one at the auto show had the standard straight lines and looked just awesome-
I know the brit quilt look is gorgeous as well- no doubt, I liked that kinda stuff in my range rover but for some reason like german cars better without it..
hey either way as fab stated- your gonna be sitting in it; and not looking at it the entire time..

Boo hoo cry me a river. You can switch out the badge from Designo to AMG yourself!
It's such a minor thing...
One advantage to the Designo badge over the AMG is that it's made in sterling silver while the AMG is some lesser metal.

actually its not crying, its irritating-- its mostly all minor stuff and anyone can do things on their own- some of us like a few things to be delivered the way they should be without the minor changes-- feels kinda tacky and cheesy to have designo badges on the seats, dash.. now now, i know that its super nice quality design and material, no doubt; but to have that, sterling or gold, in a +100K MB .. i'm not sure about that... they should just call it something different, something German, or put like a d before the amg on the decal.. heck you pay for an amg, get any seat you want, that says amg on it-- i would want it to come

I agree completely. I think the decals and badging are tacky and wish there was a way to remove them. One other thing on my wish list is carbon fiber. Given carbon is available on other AMG's not sure why it isn't offered on the GL.

Good point. I didn't think anyone could be more anxious than Sam until I read 1Adam12's posts! Adam, be patient as supply will come once we work through foreign demand.
Saw the white Gl63 at the Chicago auto show this week. Looks real good in person. I talked to the MB rep - which I appreciate is just a hired show gun - about my frustration in being no closer to knowing when I will get one than I was in Nov when I placed the order. He knew less about the car than just about every poster on this board - so nothing new there.
