What we know is 35 for far - so let's stretch MY13 70 75.

Excusing the FL "double-up" that 75 GL63's out of 360 dealers or so.

If I wanted a GL63 I would plan my strategy for MY14 October delivery - on which dealer to hang my hat too.

If I needed a truck sooner I would load up a GL550 for Amy delivery - and then tune-it/mod-it.

That's the best I can call it right now.

Thanks Fab. When do you think those remaining allocations for MY13 will be released?

I have seen an order request print out for preliminary options, eg color, leather, night display, etc and I am told that I will be offered the first one...we'll see.

What you saw is either a form with all options listed before its entered into the MB system or a printout from Netstar if its already in the MB order system. As far as being offered the first one - you are probably number 1 in line at that dealer. The real question is whether the dealer has an allocation. Good Luck. Please keep us posted.

Personally, I would expect 25 or so of those to "bump off" into MY2014 build for late July build..

Thank You Fab. Fab - Do you think this allocation is it for MY13?

I do have an allocation for June 2nd decade build with my AMG PC out of state. I wish my regular dealer had an allocation as I would like to buy from them - My SA at that dealer is awesome.
The decision is to get it from an out of state AMG PC or wait for my regular dealer to get allocated.

Suggestions???

Its MSRP at out of state dealer and maybe a discount at the regular dealer - don't know about the discount for sure.

SouthOcean1 / Tomshop - DO you have allocations?

Yes - I believe this is will be total allocated for MY13 - similar to ML63 last year - probable that a good part of # of the current June will likely fall-off/roll-over into into MY14 - and last year for ML63 those MY12 rollovers became MY13 last-July production for early-Sept release to dealer.

On dealer profile: there are three dealers who have (3) each: Coral Gables, Dallas, Newport Beach/Fletcher, and five dealers that have (2) each: Bayside NY, Manhattan, Paramus NJ, Englewood NJ, and Van Nuys CA.

That means this hasn't been "clustered" - trying to be far I would expect.

Keep the beat !

Sam

Congrats! (I think . . .). I emailed my dealer tonight but have not heard yet. No news in this case is generally bad news. I will keep you posted.

I appreciate your predicament. A June build means July delivery with the 2014s coming in August/September. The 2013 ML63s were released at the end of July 2012, so if that holds true for the GL63s, that is a short walk to 1 years worth of depreciation - although no car represents a "prudent" invesmtent. I guess the 2014s could also see a price increase so that would mitigate the impact somewhat.

I am a little more optimistic about build numbers for 2014 than Fabbrisd1, as I think there will be 400 to 500 allocated to the US for 2014 which should satisfy most of the demand. I still think that far more folks will choose the GL550 than a GL63 since it looks almost the same whereas the ML550 just does not work nearly as well as the ML63 (plus the whole who needs a full size SUV AMG question) so a lower build total should suffice. I could be wrong, and Fabbrisd1 knows his stuff, but that just seems logical to me. I also think we worked through some pent up foreign demand as the GL63s have been sold outside of North America since November which should be reflected in higher US totals next MY. With MB's stock price under some pressure, they will sell as many high profit GL63s as they can.

Fabbrsid1, what is your advice for someone with a very late MY2013 build in this case?

So by looking at the list of dealers that have 3 allocations (which I suspect is the most for any one dealer so far), AMG Performance dealers don't really have that much of an advantage over those really high volume dealers such as Newport Beach? So it seems like for future reference, your best bet to securing one of the first low production higher demand cars will be going through a high volume dealer?

I have not heard anything more from my dealer. I am waiting until early March to push them again. If I am going to get a car past June then I will push it into a MY2014 car hoping some of the new saftey options are inculded then.

My thought exactly. I have an allocation but am hesitant for the reasons you mentioned. June 2nd decade production means the dealer will see the car first week of July. The dealer would then have to ship it to me and I may see it in 2nd or 3rd week of July. 2014 models will start rolling in shortly thereafter. Its a big depreciation hit considering they will probably charge me MSRP.

Its a different situation if June 2nd decade gets rolled over to MY14 as I would prefer that. The other problem is that 2014 model is not a guarantee either and I don't know if we will wait for an eternity to get an allocation for the 2014 GL63. If I do put a deposit down to buy some time and then decide against it later - I will probably lose my deposit.

A unfilled confirmed factory PO for MY13 - and important note I say confirmed factory PO - that doesn't make it to MY13 production - can become a confirmed MY14 factory PO - factory will check with dealer - and it is a yes/no - AND becomes new factory PO# for MY 14.

What if a MY 2013 confirmed factory order is about to be fulfilled in late summer but the customer decides at that point he'd rather wait a month or two for the 2014? Do you go to the back of the line, or would there be some consideration for the reasonable desire to avoid the depreciation hit?

If there is any one here who nows has a GL63 order confirmed for June production - so this is all "theory".

There are no "tricks" to the system.

If you have a confirmed factory order for MY13 scheduled for June production - it gets made - you "choose" not to take it - yes, you go back to square one - and its up to your dealer what happens with your deposit on your original order - a amicable no brainer if you are buying something else available.

Dealer can sell the GL63 to anyone they "choose" to

Not produced, dealer has option to rebook MY13 order for a MY14 new order that will be confirmed by the factory for most likely available Oct production.

The rollover MY13 orders will NOT be allowed to "cascade" delayed delivery for pre-booked 2014 orders for Aug/Sept production (my best guess).

Fab - not theory. I have a GL63 with a confirmed PO number scheduled for June 2nd decade production. I had the same question as 1adam12.

Fab, as always, you and your insights are tremendously helpful.

Sam, I got nuthin'. I have a deposit down on a GL63 with an AMG-PC in the Chicago area, but they're (rightly) making no promises. Congrats on getting a PO for June production. If I am so fortunate, then I will probably end up keeping it and taking delivery of the car a few months before MY 2014 and feeling like a bit of a sucker for taking the model year-end depreciation hit. But hey, the depreciation hit is huge on one of these cars anyway and a 557 hp $120k SUV to haul the kids around is already totally irrational, so what the heck, right?

The problem is the uncertainty. If I could get a guarantee that I'd be in the first production cycle for the 2014 then I would wait, but not knowing that then I would probably take delivery of the 2013 over the summer.

I totally agree with you. Uncertainty is a big thing. I would like to get a MY14 and may just pass up and wait for a MY14. Atleast I don't have to decide now. I just don't like to get the car and take a big hit in 2 weeks when the MY14 comes out. Hang in there. We will all get our GL63s - hopefully before December. I hope SouthOcean1 is right about MY14 projections.

Of the current scheduled production - three going into Illinois - MB Chicago/Westmont/St Charles in that order ..

If you have a deposit elsewhere like Edens - then MY14 should work out for you...

Frabbrisd1

Thanks for providing the Illinois list. My dealer is not on it so that makes the decision easy for me - MY2014. I would have gone that way anyways and taken my chances on better allocations in the fall. But then I don't need the GL63 soon to replace a lease or anything like that.

1Adam12, you mentioned you went with an AMG Performance Center in Illinois. There are only two and was curious if your's is on the list? And where are you in the line. I hope your dealer is on the list as I know you want it as soon as possible. I would guess that with 100 built for the US, at least a handful will appear for sale this summer at the dealers so you could always go that route if you can find your Steel Grey.

Sam, if I were you I would roll the dice on your local dealer as I think you said you are on the top of that dealer's list. I bet (hope) your and my dealer will each receive at least one late summer/early fall allocation.

Kind regards
