GL63 redesign

Does anyone know when the GL63 is due for a resign? I know that they were refreshed for MY2013, but I seem to recall hearing that they were due for redesign in MY2016, but that seems like a short cycle.

Facelift generally happens 3 or 4 years in and a complete redesign after 7 years. As of late, cars get refreshed after 3 years. This has been normal for MB and other luxury car brands since the early 2000s.

It'll likely happen one year after the ML which is due in 2015. So you're right, most likely 2016.

Actually correction, I think the facelifted ML will get introduced later this year which means it'll be a 2016 model. So I think the GL probably won't be facelifted until 2017. But again, just speculation.

found it here http://www.carscoops.com/2014/12/201...lifted-gl.html

Id rather wait for it. Most desirable change could be the NAV update !

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is to be a 2016MY GL63?

I'm looking at the US AMG site and the GL isn't there any more.

I'm pondering trading my full size RR V8SC for a 15MY but I'm apprehensive both on account of the facelift and in case they decide to discontinue the AMG trim itself.

Thanks.

They're going to rebrand GL as "GLS". There will be 63 AMG but because of the refresh and officially unannounced, it's not up yet.

Ah, thanks a bunch for the clarification.

I'm sure this has been addressed numerous times but if someone doesn't mind indulging me, when are you guys estimating the 16MY will start being delivered?

Thanks again.

Mr Soulsea

good to see you again.

The new GLS refresh should come out around the fall time (sept-nov 2015). At this point, we all are waiting for the refresh of X166.

Thanks Nihsel10.

I guess I'l hold on to the RR until the GLS reveal to see what the refresh looks like.

Or maybe it's time to look at a Platinum again.

lol thats ok.

I might look into a 2016 platinum soon, since my '13 Platinum is becoming a gas guzzler now.

I leased a '15 GL550 last october. wWay better than the 2012 I had.

Seems like no GLS or face lift for 2016. I got the word from local dealership sales director

All signs point to a MY2017 GLS refresh. The 2016 order guide is already out and the GL is unchanged for 2016. While I to would like to see an early release of the MY2017 GLS, people who know about such things than me say they've heard nothing from MB or Vance about such a thing.

August

I heard direct from MB-USA this morning that the 2016 GLS is expected to be launched in August 2015. Not definite, but expected. No word on refresh or not, but this IS the year of the SUV and it would be dumb to NOT follow the refresh of the M/GLE. Plus, why call it the GLS of not refreshed? If they don't have the refresh in the 2016 GLS then they should expect very low sales for the 2016 model. I would bet it's coming and coming soon though. I've got my wallet ready.

Not sure who at MBUSA would tell you that but the MY16 order guide for the GL is already available and there is no mention of a rebadged GLS or the refreshed GLS.

Yesterday I spoke to the GM of a large MB dealership in the north Philly who just returned from a MB meeting in Las Vegas and he also confirmed that they did not share any news about the GLS. I would love to order a new GLS myself but facts are facts. Do not look for it until sometime next year as a MY17 which would be a normal release cycle for it anyway.

We'll see who's right by fall...I've been told it's coming this year by a reliable source and by someone at MB-USA. Over the years I've found that dealers have ZERO info on new models. Don't look to them for the future.

In the past... They have refreshed the ML first and then the GL.

Why the pissing match fellas?

We'll find out soon enough. Not sure the "refresh" is going to be all that dramatic anyway (unless you consider switching to a floating screen to be a huge change)...

Historically, MB has shown new or refreshed models at car shows and then about 6 months later they show up at the dealerships. If the refreshed GLS were to make to showrooms this year, it would have already popped up at a car show. You can order a new 2016 "unchanged" GL at any dealership.

If MB shows the refreshed GLS at Frankfurt Germany in September (and that is speculation as well), we likely will not be able to order it before spring 2016. And its still likely MB is planning a normal release cycle, meaning ordering would begin around May/June.

Look, anything is possible, MB may be planning to make the 2017 GLS available sooner than the normal cycle. As doctorG says, we'll find out soon enough. I was hoping for an early release this year but I just don't see any real evidence that's going to happen. I'm now in the camp of a normal release cycle.
