Check Engine Light on

I was driving on the expressway and noticed the Orange engine light on but no messages in the dash.

Car has 4K .... I was down almost a quart of oil.
I also have a bit of a oil leak right at the top front of the motor which could have been adding to the consumption...

Any thoughts of what this might be?

I've since filed the car with gas and checked the cap and I topped up the oil.

You should not be down a quart after 4k miles. No idea what it might be but it doesn't sound good, document what you did and get it into dealer ASAP.

Turns out that a crank case valve error or something similar.... A non event. They cleared the code and all fine.

The M157 does use a bit of oil on break in.... In conjunction with the slight oil leak at the top of the engine... I'm not really worried.

Huh, a slight oil leak is normal?? Ok, so long as you're not worried, my 157 didnt do any of that

No.... Not the oil leak. It will be fixed at the next service in 2 weeks.

This is my second Gl63.... The last car I drove 17K... It required a couple of top offs... In fact the manual tells you to expect it.... I've talked with 3 service managers at three different dealers. I'm told that this is normal. I've also seen multiple threads on the subject as being normal.

Soooo maybe your M157 was built on a Monday. I bet if you check it tomorrow... It is down just a little.

I was more shocked by the oil leak, glad it is going to be fixed. I also baby the car so I'm not going to burn away as much oil... I wish you good luck with yur car

I'm pretty surprised about the leak on top of the engine too (it is really minor but still....). I will update the forum as to what the issue was.

But seriously, I dont really push my cars either... Have always followed break in procedures and I wait till all temps are out of the blue before I even run the car remotely freely. I had never checked the oil on the first car till about 5K where I changed the oil... I too was shocked to see that it was down almost a qt at that point... So I monitered it from then on... So no surprise here on my 15....plus plenty of forum searching and conversations with MB service. That it does the same thing.

Check yours and report back.

Interesting, I never checked the oil level. Did you randomly check it or did you get a message letting you know it was low? I've had to top off the coolant on the sperate occasions but never the oil. I don't baby the car but I do wait for the temps to warm up before I ride it hard.

No.... I don't randomly check it (I only have 4K on the 2015) but when I got the error as the topic for this thread... I did check it.

It hardly registered at the bottom of the dipstick gauge... I put in 7/8s of a qt. needless to say that I hadn't gotten a check oil error.

I suggest checking it every month and to keep a qt in your trunk. These cars use oil especially during break in.

Here is the oil leak at the top of the engine:

Hey guys

Just checked I'm dead center of the hash marks... Oil dipstick ... Says I'm in range. I have 2400 miles...that being said at 1850 miles I got the rear diff fluid serviced as per recommendations and they may have topped off the engine oil at that time though not mentioned on the record

Will keep and eye on it

And thanks for reporting on this and keeping us updated!

2400 miles, 2.4k, I have the limited slip rear diff and it's a recommendation to get fluid replaced at 1750 miles and then at 50k miles

You might have spoken too soon.... Check your oil at 6.5k....

That car of yours is a beast! Whole different league than our cars over here in GL land.... I think you have third row envy with a little snow action desire on the side.

Is your limited slip aftermarket, inasmuch as I did not think there was a limited slip option for the GL63? I only ask in case I need to get my differential fluid checked as 1,750 miles.

the check engine light was on because of a failing Boost Pressure Control Transducer that works with the Turbo system. It also caused a slight flutter in the idle while waiting for a stop light.
