Multimedia Package or not?

Multimedia Package or not?
Is the Multimedia package worth it? I currently have an E63 with nav and I find myself using Waze instead of the built in Nav. If I choose omit the Multimedia Package what do I loose other than Nav. Has anyone opted to omit this package? Any regrets?

Dealers have tried to convince me that nav is "essential" but honestly I think its waste of money as I use my phone for all that stuff. You get the bigger screen with MM from 7" to 8.4" and the COMAND voice controls. If you don't care for that stuff, like me, I'd forgo it and get Burmester sound and some extra $$$ in your pocket.

I would simply NOT own a Mercedes without the Multi-Media package. There are lot's of threads on this in the C (W205 forum), pop on over there and read them.
Just remember, it's not an option you can add after the fact.

I would not either, but then again, I order most options.

In your GLC it's up to you - frankly with GLC the only way to get integrated Nav - but Rear View Camera is separate option - so you overall are correct.
I don't believe GLC's are on the CarPlay list for 1Q 2016 production - that's from memory.
There are more and more customers - like you - who are deciding with Rear View Camera option not to get MultiMedia - as more and more, like you - use alternate phone based Nav - and "trade-off" and spend their dollars getting Blind-Spot + Advanced Parking Assist with Surround-View-Camera/Parktronic/Parking Assist "instead".

Can someone expand on this? The Garmin SD map option sounds interesting. Will this work in the US model of the GLC? Is there anything special that I need to order?

I can't expand on it, but I recommend you go out and visit the W205 threads on this forum. Lot's a threads on the topic. Most don't like the Garmin. Many claim it's not user friendly and doesn't get them where they wanted to go. That's the primary reason one would need a navigation tool to do.

I would suggest that you "re-check" - I think you will confirm GLC as delivered to US market is not compatible with Garmin SD - consumers and dealers knew no-go for MapPilot on the GLC - and dealers has "assumed GLC would have Garmin SD compatibility like the C-Class - however GLC is NOT Garmin capable - it was one of those "dealer's were surprised" when GLC's arrived in.
If anyone "knows" different - please let me know - since I love to learn when I am wrong.
CarPlay is not showing available for GLC either - available for GLE's manufactured after Jan 8 2016 - but CarPlay not announced for GLC either.
That said - as Smartphone nav is becoming more common - at the moment if you are not linked to music audio - "most" smartphone app's will announce directions/turns by Bluetooth into your system - working towards better/full integration down the road - CarPlay or not.

some car makers have jumped on board already. It's the high end cars that profit from these on board systems.

Doesn't the sd card reader only come when you have multimedia package. is it a standard feature for glc?

I ordered the MM package. I know some apps (like waze) are better but I fit right in the profile that usability trumps a somewhat superior product (VHS vs Beta - I'm dating myself)

I have the Garmin on my W204. It is just ok. I have ordered the multimedia on my GLC. It is a must. I had it on my GL. I really liked it.

So, without Multimedia package, there will be no either Mercedes or Garmin navi on GLC. In addition to hook cellphone/Navi device on windshield, is there anyway to project cellphone screen onto 7" screen on the dash?

Dealer seems to be clueless about this. Can anyone verify for sure that the 2015/16 Garmin Map Pilot SD card for the C-Class Audio 20 actually works with the GLC? I understand that the GLA Garmin SD card does not.

The way Merc places the physical screen on the dash seems to indicate than they are hoping the whole computer thing is just a fad and that we will be returning to paper maps in the future.

The multimedia is the Mercedes Navigation system ie Command

No answer forthcoming on the above. However, I did learn that the Garmin Map Pilot requires option code 355 on the 2015/16 C-Class. Anyone know what that is?

I want, but don't need, adaptive cruise control. That functionality requires the purchase of both MM and the Driver's assistance package.
I think MB is fair in how they do options on this car. The car in the 40K's seems like a particularly good value. But of course with a couple of bigger packages it is easy to bump up to $55K.

"Thank you for reaching out to us. Unfortunately, this will not fit in your vehicle. It will only fit the W205 C Class. It appears that there is not currently a navigation update available for your vehicle either."
Hopefully, a GLC Garmin SD card will be available soon.
