Another link to up to 26 various GLC articles, both wagon, coupe and 43, 63 variants.

https://www.mercedes-benz.com/en/mer...ars/glc-class/

Again, a good insight to the model variants.

Mercedes may kill off the X-Class Ute ?
See article – https://www.motorauthority.com/news/...s-pickup-truck

The interesting bit is not the possible killing off of the X Class, but the continuing downgrading of profits across various Divisions, within Mercedes. That and possible deletion of certain model variants, most likely in the USA. Nothing mentioned for Australia.
That said, it may explain pressure on Mulgrave profit lines, in assisting owners with new tyres for GLC and willingness to support knuckle replacements for GLC and other issues.

Good news in Australia

Poster is having the "knuckle fix' performed on his GLC, even though his vehicle is outside the manufacturer warranty period.

Loyalty data from USA with J.D.Power data.

Whilst Lexus came first by a reasonable margin, Mercedes was second, with only 1% between the rest of the field on catch up.

Car battery replacement costs
This is from the UK.
The standout price was for Mercedes C Class – it shows you need to know your current battery (no pun intended) specs, as written on the casing, before shopping and comparing apples with apples.

Car battery costs. https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-ne...rce=newsletter

An Auto Express investigation can reveal that some car owners are being charged a staggering £1,250 for battery replacement, while others face bills as low as £98.

Auto Express compiled a list of the UK’s 20 best-selling vehicles and contacted three franchised dealer networks across the country to get a price for parts and labour. The only information dealers requested was the vehicle’s registration details.

Owners of the current-generation Mercedes C-Class are in for the biggest shock, because we were quoted a fee of £1,248 for a replacement battery. A second dealership quoted a price of £1,098.90 for the same job, while a third was charging only £315. To check this figure was not an anomaly, we contacted two more dealerships and again received quotes of £1,111.80 and £1,198.80.

A Mercedes spokesperson told Auto Express: “We believe the majority of retailers you contacted have quoted for a lithium-ion battery, and one quote may be for a 12v battery. We can only recommend a retail price for these parts, which means there could be a variation across retailers.”

Yeah ….dunno where the UK site got their quotes from, or what info they provided......might have got the part number wrong.
Edit: there a reference to Lithion-ion battery ..not the standard Lead-Acid AGM battery we have in the GLC.

Here in Aus …...SuperCheap AUTO website ..allows you to search for a battery via vehicle rego number ..and hence they get the correct vehicle parameters.

For my Petrol GLC it gave:
Century Stop Start Battery DIN75LH - 800CCA, 80Ah, MF, AGM, 12V - 106106 $AUD391.00
…..nothing like what is posted in that article. …...unless Diesels get a vastly different battery.

...I'm not buying it!!! not at those prices!!!

Some interesting observations. UK has higher cost of ownership due to various tax and insurance overheads.

Shock Horror !!!!! OMG
Saw in Rome, yes LHD, a GLC Coupe with very badly scrubbed front tyres.
I thought RHD had the issue, may be its the way Italians drive down the one way cobble stone streets !!!!
Tyres were Dunlop Sports Max, terrible state.
Oh well.....

Interesting article re nearly $1Bn fine for Daimler over diesel issues in Europe.

https://motorauthority.us1.list-mana...3&e=99bb05cb6e

Looks like Australia never suffered this transgression, or our enviro laws are so slack and flimsy, well we just rolled over again, like the approx $1000 fine for VW in Oz - that’s whats left for owners who went down the class action, after a negotiated settlement, after all legal costs - naturally. A far cry from buy back and significant compensation for those in USA and Europe.

Anyway, the new GLC version line up does not have a single diesel, pity - Australia is as big as all or Europe and as big as all of Nth. America - something that seems to fail comprehension by those making decisions for Australian ‘customers’. I hear Toyota and their PR people now call customers - who buy their cars - Guests.... really dinner guests ?
Customers have consumer rights, is Toyota setting the benchmark so Guests have no consumer rights ?? LOL.

No Diesels? Really? When I bought mine I was told that the ratio of diesel sales to petrol was huge.

Good article on GLC in Oz for remainder of 2019 and into 2020..

Pity about announcement of no more diesel imports for Oz. Might have to mothball mine as a collector edition, LOL....

Interesting post from a USA Mercedes site like ours here.

“ We have dropped to fall weather on some days down here in Texas and zero issues with crabbing still on the Continental ExtremeContact Sport summer tires.
On the Continental SportContact SSR stock tires, I was crabbing at 60*F. We got down to mid 50s in temperature this weekend and zero issues for me.

I have said this in several posts here, the crabbing was a tire problem on my GLC63, not suspension problem.
I have not experienced it in both ExtremContact Sport and ExtremContact DWS 06 tires. 17k miles on my 19 GLC63. “

Not sure if these tyres are available in Oz, but owners of 43/63 models might find this interesting.
Owners comment re issue is a tyre problem is an interesting variation on what has been written elsewhere, hope they are correct....
Good luck.

Today picked up a screw in my rear Goodyear All Season run flats.
Indented from edge or shoulder towards first longitudinal drain channel. Looks like still too close to edge to allow fitting a mushroom.
Will have to fit 2 x new tyres now, approx 25000 - 30000km on them and another 15-20K remaining – not happy !!!
15 hours later still holding pressure at 35psi.
Car has travelled 70,000 Km so far.

From member jeffzzz in MB forum in Oz.

” Hi guys,

Just sharing a site I've come across, apologies if you have seen/discussed it previously.

MB, as you probably know, keeps a database of all cars by VIN and a list of parts with diagrams/repair procedures etc. call the EPC (Electronic Parts Guide). There appears to be a website with access to it, you can search via your VIN to obtain SA codes or drill down by model and then series to see parts. Parts are broken down into categories and in some case even check prices against 3rd party sites (though I have no idea where/who they are).

The site is http://mbepc.net/ and I was able to find my 2016 build GLC by VIN. But be warned, I tried a later GLC VIN (Oct 2018 – recent loan car) and that was not found so it can't be the latest iteration. But as I said you can dirll down by model etc.

I was able to find various parts (like new TS brake pads (rear) that I had recently replaced from the service sheet for instance, so some of you may find this useful for tacking parts down. You can see a lot of diagrams but no instructions on repair procedures but it's a start. “

Many thanks to jeffzzz for this info.

2020 GLC 300
Thanks Teckno/jeffzzz,

I've found my new 2020 model isn't in any of the usual sites (due to being so new) but have had success with http://www.mbdecoder.com

It recognises my VIN and tells me a fair bit about it but perhaps because of the newness of that model specifically there are a reasonable number of unknown codes.

Cheers

Mercedes to start selling new cars “online”.

https://www.carsguide.com.au/car-new...b109-314967369

An interesting article, given MBAu will ‘own’ the cars and only selected Dealers will be able to offer test drives.
I wonder if warranty will ever be offered past 3 years ?
This will impact on shopping around for discounted pricing and further remove any loyalty, both from Dealer and Purchaser when issues arise.
Dealers will need to reimage themselves, reduce footprints and fixed and staff overheads – I wonder if the service area will be their financial lifeline ?
A brave move, yes people are buying more online, but prestige cars ?

MBAu might believe their own PR and someone may be promoted, but the Oz market is small and can be quite different to other major markets like UK & USA.

I wonder how the vehicle brokers and Novated Lease providers will negotiate this new development ?
