Continuing Saga... After the car was sitting at the dealer for 3+ days, got a call yesterday morning that the front pads they ordered per a new bulletin will not be available till the 20th at the earliest. Guessing it will be back in the shop in early December. At least the service department hears the noise and agrees it is not acceptable.

Question are the front pads different than the normal brake pads it comes with? Do you have a part number?

The latest Bulletin they are ordering from is LI42.10-P-063978. Assuming these are different somehow from the standard pads which is why the extra time in getting them.

While it is a bit embarrassing when backing up, it has no impact on the car. We love the GLCs regardless, and have no regrets.

The screeching sound came back after a few months, even changing out the front brake pads. They put a paste in certain locations on the pad to stop the noise. I'm not to confident that it will fix the issue permanently.

We will see, if anyone has any other solutions let us all know.

So, the bulletin I originally posted, LI42.10-P-06397, is only a temporary fix.

Same story as many have told before for me.

Rear brakes came in last week, dropped the car off yesterday, and picked it up this morning. When backing out of the service lot... SCREECH. Ran back in, grabbed my advisor, he heard it and confirmed. Ordering front brakes now, but they're on back order with no indication of how long it will take them to come from Germany...

Do they say the parts are "in Germany" just to make you feel better and remind you that you drive a fancy Germany car?

....no. These vehicles are made in Germany. The parts come from Germany. There are PDC's in US, but when bulletins come out there is usually a supply shortage, which means when they are available it will be from Germany.

Mine was like that too. They changed the front brake pads the first time and noise went away for 2 months. 2nd time they put a paste in certain locations on the pad to stop the noise. It has been a month and ok so far the screeching noise hasn't come back.

Our GLC now sounds like that again too, even though we had the official fix. Certainly is embarrassing and people turn there heads when it is that loud. Not sure what Mercedes will do now.

I'm thinking they might use shims and the paste which is the fix for their other model with the same issue. Maybe they are testing that solution and have not approved it or have the correct shim parts for the GLC.

Crazy this has been going on for so long and no permanent fix. Everytime I ask they said no one else has this issue with their GLC which I find odd, or they are lying.

That sounds exactly like my GLC---the screeching started in summer, only when backing up and lightly braking. I do not accept the explanation that "this is normal" because no car I have ever driven did this before. Will bring this up when I take it in for the first flex service next month.

After a few months, mine is still doing it. It probably annoys other people around me more than me. Definitely cheapens the car greatly.

GLC 300 is the 40th kind/model of car I have driven in the past 2.5 years. That means I have driven hundreds of different cars in the past 2.5 years under a variety of driving circumstances, given the repetition of certain kinds/models. As far as I can remember, this serious screeching-brake issue ONLY occurs in GLC 300 (indeed, cooler temperature exacerbates the situation). So DO NOT tell me it is normal to hear such sound so frequently, especially when it is a luxury car like Mercedes. Wish a permanent solution can be figured out soon.

My GLC 250d Brake Squeal has certainly got worse over the last few months.

MB had a lot of brake squeal problems with its original SUV the W163 particularly with the ML 500 and it appears that GLC is another model with similar problems.

The squeal we are experiencing is not nearly as bad as the W163.

I got an email back from MBUSA

Thanks for the full disclosure of the chain of events and the video.

After reading your email, I would like to let you know that the brake squeal is in no way putting you are your family in danger of driving the vehicle. It is purely a noise coming from the form of brakes that are installed in your vehicle.

I do realize that it is an annoyance; however, as soon as a fix is in place we will notify you take your vehicle to the Dealership.

Thanks for your patience while this is being reviewed.

Thanks again,

Darrell

I haven't encountered anything like this - I wonder whether this is model / brake size specific? Do any GLC43 AMG owners encounter this?

GLC's have different brake configurations depending on whether the AMG option was chosen. The AMG packs come up with the larger cross drilled disks and larger calipers.

My vehicle does not have the AMG kit and is experiencing the reverse squeal.

If you are experiencing brake squeal do you have the standard brakes or the AMG option?

Front brakes and rear brakes replaced (on separate trips to the service center). Silky smooth and quiet braking now. As it should be!
