Tyre scrubbing on (full) lock
I have a 4 week old AMG GLC43 in Australia with 21' rims fitted with continental sport contact tires. Did not notice the issue at first, but yesterday noticed it for the first time only slightly.
What was more alarming was the tire wear which shows signs of graining already, the car has only done 900km.
The car is booked in next week for a windscreen polish as it also has the windscreen wiper judder problem that some owners are also experiencing. I shall be lodging the tire judder issue with MB at that time.
It's a great car but MB need to come up with a better solutions than fitting winter tires in Australia
could you take a photo of the graining on your tyres please?
I don't notice this issue on my glc43 but would be interested in comparing the tyre wear against mine, mines completed 1400kms.
Hi JustinS,
I just done a 200km highway drive so the attached only show a sample of the wear. Seams this has cleaned the tire up slightly
After a few days of around town driving it looks worst.
Where are you from/based?
I still only just notice the judder & crabbing when on full lock, I must admit its not as bad as some of the on line videos I've seen of RHD GLC in colder weather conditions such as the UK.
I'm just concerned as OZ weather cools is the effect going to become worst.
The car is booked in next week Saturday to have the Windscreen polished due to the wiper judder issue and I've already told MB that we will be discussion the crabbing issue when I'm there.

Harder to flip you off with photos, they keep them on your file usually.
Good luck
With all the tire worn areas documented so far, seem to be only the outer edge involved? Maybe can consider front section of wheel arch rubbing on the tire's outer edge during a full lock turn. Evidence that lots of highway straight road driving reduce the scrubbing effect.
If that is the case, then maybe the offset of the rims have to be looked at along with the tire profile.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
"I've been told today, 6/2/17, by Lookers, the dealer I bought my GLC from, that there is an internal Mercedes notification that has been distributed stating that prospective customers are to be demonstrated the vehicle and asked to sign a disclaimer. This to me, at least is an admission of the problem. There is meant to be a 'public' notification on the 17/2/17. I am in the process of returning the vehicle on the basis that I was not told about it when I bought it and would have not gone ahead with the purchase had I been."
My argument on rejection is purely on the safety aspect. I can't be having to second guess if the car will go in the direction the steering is pointing or where the car is facing.

A right mess. I would stay well clear of these vehicles in right hand drive.
"For those customers who have already taken delivery of a car with this characteristic and have expressed their concern, we will provide a further update by 17 February 2017".
Yesterday I was in a parking which floor is polished. I have Winter tyres on 19". My tyres were wet as it was raining. Exterior temperature was about 3ºC. On full streering-wheel lock and at very low speeds I experimented the described situation. Today I went back to the same parking, same temperature, dry tyres and was not able to reproduce the situation.
In April I should be receiving my new GLC43 AMG.

Very unlike the constant experience that us RHD owners have where even at high temperatures and when dry this happens.
Really appreciate your contribution on it, we hear too little from LHD owners and I think it is useful

I mean seriously, why would you still buy a car that does this?
Not sure about others but I am not saying it is a safety issue but an issue that shouldn't be built into any car, my discovery sport doesn't have it and none of my previous 4 wheel drive cars have.
I am due to collect car on March 1st, will be interested to see what happens.
My car has arrived at dealers and salesman has taken it around the site, forward and backwards on full lock and he says it doesn't have the issue. He said I could go over and drive the car but I declined, I trust him and he knows if it has the problem he will be getting it back.
