No Parking Sensors?
So we picked up our new GLC43 yesterday and first impressions are all good. I feel kind of stupid though because of the following (unless I'm missing something):
Our car does not have the Parking Assist Package. So this means we don't even have parking sensors? I thought the Parking Assist Package provided automated parking, but didn't realize you needed it in order to get parking sensors at all? If that's the case, why do I have the sensors on both the front and rear?
Appreciate the feedback...

I had aftermarket parking sensors installed on the front of my GLC, since I ordered the factory trailer hitch, which deleted the park assist. Since there is a back up camera, I felt rear sensors were not needed. 4 sensors were mounted in the stock locations, whereas the factory uses 6. There is a very small
light bar that mounts at the forward front of the center dash speaker grill and looks like a factory install. It cost $700 and works well.

weird, i thought parktronic was standard on all these cars. you guys without them, are you in the States? that would explain it i am sure. Americans get less base options with a lower base price compared to Canada and most other places.

Actually, I'm kind of glad mine won't be equipped, as it annoys the crap out of me when I have the bike rack on the Pathfinder and I put it in reverse. I just keep winning on this build....so excited.

well there is a button to turn off the sensors should you wish to do so.

I guess there is isn't there. That's useful for when you're at the bank, or other type of drive-thru, and it's going off for the vehicle in front of you. We have the same ability on the Pathfinder, but I always forget to shut it off when the rack is on and only reminded that we have back up sensors when I stick it in reverse (there are no front on our pathfinder). However, on our Focus I used the kill switch in drive throughs since it had front sensors as well. That button was right in front of the shifter which allowed quick and easy access. The Pathfinder on the other hand is in the left knee bolster area and requires thought to locate.

manual states receiver is 1.25" so not the usual 2" that you may expect. You would need to get an adapter if you want to hook to a 2" hitch.
Online configurator states its class II.
I was going to order the hitch, but can't get park assist and hitch - its one or the other. I went with park assist for the cameras

I, II, III, IV and V refer to the ratings of the trailer hitch. 1.25" refers to the size of the square receiver where you would insert your ball mount, bike rack, or whatever you're going to use said hitch for. Normally 1 and 2s are 1.25", 3 and 4 are 2", and 5 is 2.5"

Thank you for that information. I thought as much and will be sourcing a hitch in the aftermarket.

Confirming it's a 1.25" receiver if you add that option. Converter works well for my 2" bike rack. Kick motion to open rear hatch doesn't work with integrated hitch option.

Back Up Sensors
Check out the NVision License Plate Frame with Backup Sensors; at about $40 it may an easy solution if you haven't shelled out $1400 for the Parking Assistance Package.

What do you mean by integrated hitch, the auto-folding one? I have ordered my GLC 300 with both Trunk Hands Free Access (kick motion) and trailer hitch (factory, not auto-folding). This is a Canadian model and neither the dealer nor the online configurator said that one would exclude the other.

In the US configurator, Hands Free Access is part of Advanced Parking Assist Package ($1550). If you want to add the Trailer Hitch ($575), you have to remove the Advanced Parking (and vice versa). You can only have one or the other, but not both.

In Canada there are different packages. PARKTRONIC Active Parking Assist is part of Premium Plus Package, Trailer Hitch is on its own and Trunk Hands Free Access is on its own as well. I have placed my order for a GLC 300 with all 3 options (advanced parking + hitch + trunk hands free) and one does not exclude the other.
