GLC 300 Eco start stop
I had a GLC 300 as a loaner car (65 miles on it) earlier this week (I drive an 2012 E350 without the eco stop normally). I was really impressed with the car until the eco start stop kicked in. The engine shutting off was really smooth but when I took my foot off of the brake there was a terrible shudder that felt like someone had rear ended me. When I turned it back in to the dealer I asked about the shudder and they said that the car needs time to adapt to the owner’s driving style and then it would be unnoticeable.
Is this true? I mean I’d really consider buying one but not if the shudder is a common thing

I personally dislike the eco-stop feature immensely and disengage it immediately upon starting the car, I wish there was a way to permanently disable it.

I have had a 2014 GLK lease and now have a 2017 GLC 300 lease. I never have had any shudder with the eco start-stop. It has always been very smooth. I would try a different GLC there or one at a different dealership.

Normally - on ECO startup there will be a "small" engine "shutter" as the fuel injection fires up the engine - but for most people that becomes negligible as ECO start/stop save a bit on your fuel bill.
I have some old-school customers that don't become comfortable with it - and in this case:
1. On Start-Up - you push the ECO button once to deactivate that feature for that drive - it will reset/default to ECO every time you restart your MB
2. Vladimir from Belarus on eBay - great guy - for like $140 has a OBD module you order in - which reprograms the way ECO operates where you can change that Default setting to OFF

^ #2 - Well worth it - and when I bring it to the dealer I just turn it back on and they never know because it stays on between restarts until you turn it off again.

I never had this on my previous cars but first experienced it with loaners and rentals when traveling and don’t like the intrusive nature of the
whole idea. However, after buying my GLC I have learned to use it selectively and now am okay with it. I use it when in stop and go with long waits between lights, and turn it off otherwise. The benefits are decreased engine wear and a measurable fuel savings due to the environment where we live which is a densely populated city with heavy traffic. I have to admit that MB loaners from 2016 and 17 were more abrupt with their operation, maybe there are variables between vehicles or years.
I have rented other makes ( Toyota, Ford, Volkswagen, Jeep) that were all more jerky than my GLC when operated so I just get used to turning it off before driving.

I did lose brake hold as @Robuk found with his car, so that was also expected. If this doesn’t throw any errors or other problems down the line then I’ll be inclined to leave it like this. It’ll be great to have the cylinder deactivation working without stop/start, best of both worlds IMO.
