MY20 windshield wiper noisy - send it to dealer?

The front wipers are very noisy when it is not too wet on the windshield. I have the MY20 GLC 300 for about 1 year. This issue is from the get-go. It is very annoying.

- Should I send to dealer to fix as part of warranty?
- Anyone has similar issue?
- maybe it is related to weather here in Ontario?

Mine replaces the wipers at every service interval if your year is about up.

I had this problem ever since I purchased my 2018 GLC 300 - As the above poster said, the dealer just kept changing the wipers but it wasn't a solution. Then one day a mechanic friend came by and he fixed the problem in seconds.

He changed the positioning of something on the arm of the blade. Nothing to do with the wipers at all. ( once I hear back from him, I will report back what he did exactly )

Thank you!

Meanwhile, anyone know such solution by changing position?

I took a close look to check if the wiper blade is right-angled to the window. And I found something very unusual:
- The right side wiper blade is not right-angled to the window
- Its arm is twisted. see picture.

(This picture is taken when the wipers are on replacing position.)

I compared to left side (driver side) wiper. The left wiper arm looks okay and flat, its blade's angle is perpendicular to the window.

My 2020 GLC has the same twist in the right wiper arm. The left arm also has a similar twist, but it is very slight, not nearly as noticeable.

That eases my concern, I am about to go to dealer and ask "Hey, look at this, that is wrong!"

When the wiper is on replacing position, from inside driver seat, do you see the wiper blades is right-angled to the window? Does your GLC have the noisy wiper issue btw? Thank you Bobby!

I haven't looked at the wiper blades from that angle/position. I've driven the car only 2,200 miles since I got it last December, and I'm in Southern California, where rain is a distant memory. I've had a number of new MBs (nine up to now), and I always complain about noisy wipers when they go in for annual service, just to prod them into replacing the wiper blades. And yes, most of them are a little noisy under certain circumstances, i.e. dirty windshield, not enough rain to wet it thoroughly, maybe accumulated road contamination.

Overall, my experience with these cars has been excellent. A failed secondary battery in one, dodgy fuel gauge in another, sum total of the problems. Dealer service from Walter's MB in Riverside, CA, has been stellar. Noisy wipers don't really register on my car problem radar, but then I'm old and deaf...

GLC300 2017. Had this problem from the beginning. Dealer have no idea how to fix it. I changed to Bosh wipers, replace them every year. This alleviated the problem but solved it. I live with it but i am not happy at all.

There's a bulletin for the W167 attached to this post, it might be helpful.

No more MB:(
I remember when ALL MB's had these monster oversized wiper arms. Now they're just flimsy arms.

It drives me crazy, GLC is our second MB and wipers are squeaking, chattering and jerking.
Dealer newer could fix it.
Even with new blades after a few days all comes back.
I tried all possible cleaners, home made cleaners, water & vinegar. Nothing helps in a long run.
Drives me crazy, I cant keep it in auto mode.

There are a lot pf threads here regarding the wiper noise issue. basically, seems like they are not good wipers. I get mine replaced at every service and after a few rains they get quieter, but they are never really great. and then next service new ones get put on again and process starts all over again.

My Q7 had a horrendous rear wiper chatter that never was fixed. So far, knock on wood, my GLE hasn't had any wiper issues.

Yup, same here, cannot keep it in auto mode when it is light rain/snow.

Also, when rain storm comes, the wiper cannot go fast enough when on highest level. (comparing to my old CRV, goes much faster)

All these make the driving dangerous.

Unfortunately GLC has unique connector and not may brands options. I buy OEM as I couldn't find another brand.

2018 GLC 43 & 2014 SLK 350, gone 2016 E63 Wagon
I have a 2018 GLC43 and the right arm is twisted as you have described. I checked our 2014 SLK 350 and the driver's side is twisted (passenger side is straight and there are no issues with noise/skipping on it - obviously part of the design for some reason. I replace wiper blades once per year with OEM and really do not have any problems with noise - always set to auto.
