2017 GLC300 Turbocharger replaced

Hi everyone,

I have a 2017 GLC300 with about 90,000mil, the engine light is on with the heavy gas smell in car. I take it the dealer. The dealer told me the fuel line is leaked but within warranty. The engine light is on because the turbocharger have failed lacking power and recommend to replace turbocharger. It will cost $6600. Has anyone met the same situation? Thanks.

First turbo failure I have seen on this site for the M274 engine. An independent shop can likely do this work for far less $$.

What did the dealer say is the cause of turbo failure? Why did it happen?

The dealer did say why. The service report says turbocharger vane actuator: turbocharger has failed lacking power. Need to replace turbo.

I don’t know a lot about the car. My car engine is 2.0-Liter-Turbo. Is the actuator failed has to replace the whole turbo?

Attachment is service report. Didn’t give a lot of information.

I'd get a second opinion at an indy. If they verify the turbo needs replacement and can't be fixed, I'd have them do it. Call a place like Proturbo in Texas to see if they can help you out with options (512) 992-0000.
Turbochargers direct has OEM part for $2000.00, or aftermarket for $1580.00. Buy the part (if needed) and have the indy put it in for less than half the cost of the dealer. Turborepair.com is another option.

Thank you for the information.
They can fix but it will take about a month, and they charge $6000, I am planning to negotiate with them to see if they can give some discount. I am in San Diego.

Yes I would get a second opinion. Sounds like the turbo failed - this doesn't come up often on this site for the M274 four cylinder.

2016 GLC300 Turbo charger failed according to dealer just after B service and car has 48K miles.! Any suggestions on why turbo would fail just after the service? Does incorrect service could cause this problem? They are saying that Turbocharger vaccum accutator failed and they have to replace whole assembly! I can't belive that just after B service this failed. They did replace all the filters and spark plugs etc.

Please help.. paid $1000 for service and the next day they want me to pay for Turbocharger replacement! Such a difficult situation

You probably should start your own thread. Unfortunately, things do break and with having 48k miles, the turbo has had some use. As others have stated, seek a second opinion.

They told me the same thing, the turbocharger vane actuator failed, and have to replace whole turbo. But my car is 90K miles and is not within warranty anymore. I think 48K miles is still in warranty, they shouldn’t charge you. They told me the warranty period is $60K. Which area are you? I’m in San Diego CA. Dealer charge a lot.

I feel Mercedes Benz will lose a lot of customers if they continue to let dealers charge too much.
