Thoughts on MB extended warranty?

Curious on the community's thoughts.
I have a 2020 GLC 4Matic. I own and coming up on hitting 50K miles. Overall it's in great shape and was curious about purchasing an extended warranty vs. visiting an independent mechanic (btw, hard to find a genuine and honest one in Southern California).
The cost seem a little high but compared to dealership charges, it's not that bad. What say you?

6YR/100K $3495
7YR/75K $3830

It depends on how long you intend on keeping the vehicle and what “peace of mind" not withstanding exclusions you're willing to pay. I had a couple of extended factory warranties and none of them paid off. If I was truly concerned with a widespread problem, I'd think trading up before warranty ran out. There's high cost in normal maintenance ahead if you're not doing the work yourself. So, add that to an insurance policy really cranks up the cost of ownership. The 75K extended really sounds costly at $3K for just 2 more years. You're likely face spark plugs, transmission service, full brake replacement and add that to the normal oil changes, it could add up to $6,000+ (dealership) or $1,000 (DIY) over the next 2 years. Maybe you already factored maintenance. I'm similar in that my 2020 GLC300 has 44K miles and my 2021 has 40K miles. We don't plan on extending the warranty. Not even a thought. Good luck.

Good reply @no_mulligan . I was thinking the same but curious on others experience. It's just seems like extra marketing for MB. I've never been a "warranty' guy any way.
As for doing the repairs myself - No. I don't have the space, time or knowledge so looking on a respectable mechanic in SoCal. Any thoughts out there?

@SuperTuscan Reach out if you'd like to see warranty coverage terms for longer than Mercedes offering. Coverage options available are an additional 7 years / up to 125K miles for the same exclusionary coverages as Mercedes-Benz CPO. Repairs accepted at all Mercedes-Benz dealerships or licensed repair facilities in the country. tgibson@highline-autos.com or (855) 924-1333 for questions, quotes, or an example contract that explains coverage.

Just finished working with one of the recommended MB dealer contacts for a 3 year/75K extended warranty. A very positive experience, and was priced less than any other quote I received (and I shopped around). My warranty was expiring at the end of February 2024, and although my GLC has been for the most part, very trouble free, from my experience with other German vehicles, I didn't want to take the gamble.

Sure thing, here you go:
Jeff Jackson
Financial Services
Mercedes-Benz of Louisvllle
502-894-6829

He's been recommended from many others on this board, which is why I reached out to him. As I mentioned, he was great to work with, and very responsive to my questions.

GLC 300
I am Reposting this from yesterday because I did it on another page - not sure which section I was on -

I own a 2020 GLC300 and the warranty expires this May. I have 32,000 miles on it and plan to keep it for at least 3 more years. I only drive about 5-6K a year at this point so in 3 years I should have less than 50K. I didn't plan on owning it after the 3 year lease but the buyout was so good and my milage so low, that it made sense for me at the time. Anyway, I don't love having an out of warranty Benz for 3+ more years but not sure if it is worth buying the ELW. After reading this post, I contacted Jeff Jackson today. He gave me a great price that was much lower than the going MB rate from my local dealer on a 7/75(3 more years from this May when my new car warranty ends) I will likely buy it from him tomorrow 1/31 as he said that the prices from MB go up 2/1. Just wondering, from the info I've included, if you think it is a smart move to get the ELW 7/75. Thanks

My opinion - get an Exclusionary policy, not an Inclusionary. They generally cover more Stuff.

I just bought a 2022 GLC 300 in December. It is a CPO vehicle so it came with an extra year added to the factory warranty and has an unlimited mileage clause.

I added the Mercedes factory warranty for 2 extra years. So, a total of 7 years and unlimited miles.

Cost was $3500. It's fully refundable if you cancel before the original factory warranty expires. It's transferable also to the next owner if you go that route.

I just bought the 7/75 ELW yesterday for my 2020 GLC300 that has a warranty ending this May. Paid 2180 for it. So I have from 5/2024 through 5/2027. I feel like that was a great price and worth it to me, considering I have seen some oil seepage on the top rear of the engine as well as above and around the area of the oil drain plug. Possibly trans/front diff oil. No other problems since I bought the car but worried that this seepage could develop into more of a problem.

Nothing is cheap to repair on these vehicles. Piece of mind for me, depending on how long I keep it.

Peace of mind is what you're buying.
It's an insurance policy, and you're paying the company to share part of the risk.
You get to determine how much risk you want to share, and pay accordingly.

I want drive train coverage, but even window winders are expensive on everything these days.

So yes, peace of mind is worth a few thousand to me. I hope it's wasted. 🙂

Alternator came out of alignment, CPO extended warranty didn't cover it. Dealer said a bump on road could have done it, which I believe is their excuse to not cover anything they don't want to. I asked dealer what else falls out of alignment on a Mercedes when driving down the road, or what other non-adjustable, not normal wear related items are not covered, and got no answer. $1k to loosen and re-tighten alternator, even though that's not a normal wear and tear problem. Dealer gave me 10% off and said to call corporate to see if they can cover it. He probably knew they wouldn't but it fooled me onto paying and leaving. I called MB USA and told them it is a design or manufacturing flaw, they didn't care. I asked to talk to a manager, they said no, there is no one else to talk to. Since it prematurely wore my serpentine belt, they also said belts are not covered because it is a normal wear item. Bunch of jerks. I like the car but was first MB and may be my last. They even have a service bulletin about it, so they know about the problem.. If I had money to burn I'd hire a class action lawyer.
