Mercedes GLK350 or GLC 300 Sports Utility

Hello everyone I am new here and have never owned a Mercedes however I have taken interest in Mercedes after being interested in a 2011 glk350 that's for sale. Since, I started to look around more and saw a 2017 Glc 300.
The glk350 is $9,000 and has around 134k miles and the glc 300 is $14,000 and has around 105k. Both have a clean title and no accidents and have had regular maintenance.
Which of the two is the better one as far as reliability, engine performance based on the year and miles?

I don't care reliability with these two.
Just go for 2017 glc300.

Glk is way too old fashioned compared to glc

Is the technology also too old fashioned on a 2014 glk vs 2011 glk?
I saw a 2014 with 92k for $11,000.

Maybe "old fashioned technology" is a good thing.

It's what Consumer Reports treasures most!😀

The oldest technology is always what's at the top of their reliability lists.

Reading here and there the 2014 glk350 has a much higher rating than the 2017 glc300.
I may get the glk350 after I see it this weekend if it looks good being it has 90k miles. That's like 9k per year.

GLK 350 has a reliable V6 engine... You can search for engine problems with GLC's or other later MB V4's:

Do you need to change spark plugs every 30k or that's just a money grabber that soon?

Thank you! The issue is if tuneup isn't on the carfax report it's hard to know if it got done. I can get one done but would be a waste of $ if it was done recently but not archived.

I just received the carfax report for a potential buy but now I am not sure.
The car has had 4 owners, a corporate fleet originally, then in 2 years autioned and bought and 2 years later auctioned and bought again. The report ends in 2017.

Should the current owner 4 be on the report?

Shows minor structural damage.
Also the car had a battery replaced, sensor and seat belt upholstery when the car was only 6 weeks old.
Thats really strange so soon!

Is all this a red flag?

I would more concerned about maintenance records for an older car eg if the maintenance done timely. Is there any corrosion on the body, etc? Also do you have an independent MB mechanic nearby if there is any issues come up as it will be expensive to maintain a MB. I used an independent mech who was a MB head technician so he did all the maintenance on GLK until I sold the car at 75K, 8 yrs old,,, The batteries lasted 7-8 years, belts and spark plugs were replaced at the MB schedule.

I see little maintenance. For example oil changed at 27k fast foward to 2017 nothing and from 2017 to present the current owner is not on the report. So 7 years later nothing to show.
This is on the glk350 now the glc300 has one owner and many maintenance including oil changes at every 5k.

I test drove a 2017 glc300 and I notice as you drive it, it displays 7 speed vs 9. From what I understand the car has 9 speed correct?
Is there a reason why I didn't see the speed change past 7?

For me, at Economy mode, about 120km/h is shifting point toward 9th gear.

Glk design is obsolete, 2 generations old. These days I don't see many glk on streets. Only poor people might buy used Glk.
Glc 2016~ 2022 are almost same design. Just don't buy 2016 year glc which has piston issue.

I'm looking at a 2017 glc300. Is that year safe from piston issues?

My apologies. I tend to over think.
The 2017 glc I looked at has gps available but the memory card don't come with it. If I get a memory card will I be good to go or requires programing or whatever?

If you mean gps as the navigation, forget it. 2017 glc has no touch screen. Not easy (without upset) typing address. No Apple carplay/Android auto. An USB port is inside the arm rest box for mp3 files. But I don't think the infortainment software, if you can find one, can be updated thru it.

Just buy this vent cell phone holder, and use any online phone map as real-time traffic navigatior.

Then, consider later, if you really really want to install a 3rd party android screen for $400+-. I mean LATER.

No more answers from me, until you buy a glc first.

Search this forum, you will find different years and models with piston's problem. As far as I know, nobody knows the root cause and what year is safe.
But I do remember reading the new version of the engine has a different piston's part number.

Maybe since the vehicle I'm interested in has 109k it's past the failure window. I've read some pistons have gone bad even under 30k miles.

Thanks for sharing! I read it and the more I read up on this subject the more I have to rethink buying one.
GLK may have older technology but doesn't have this problem.
