Service A

I brought my car in for the 10k mike service. It came to $679 with a $30 coupon. I feel like i got ripped off. I own the car so i didn't want to skip the required services. Anyone else as annoyed as i am. I’ve leased BMW’s and Lexus and never spent that much. Scared to see service B.

Engine oil MB229.71 0W20 cost about 1/3.
Double the price than the one you bought at the part store

yeah I would say that is rip off for an oil change.
Ask them for detailed invoice of what they did

I received an offer via email from a Phoenix area MB dealer -- $237 for an A service. Even at this price, they're not losing money, but of course they expect to load you up with extras like cabin filters, wipers, tires, etc. before you leave.

If you're a DIY'er, Walmart's price for Mobil 1 0W-20 is $28/5 qt jug.

Ya I too recommend DIYing, also if you don't want to DIY you could just ask for an oil change (for example, it was just 180 on an S-Class https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ml#post9053078) and not a full Service A but do go through the Service A checklist yourself:

Complete rip off! I've learned that with Mercedes (more so than any other car make), it pays to shop around when it comes to maintenance!

I drive many more miles further to a service center that's reasonable since the dealer closest to me is definitely messing around (and was looking for $20k ADM on a MY23 GLS450 a bit more than a year ago)! It's stupid stuff like this that easily loses customer confidence and business! They must be thinking, "If they can afford Mercedes, they can afford to pay a lot more for maintenance"!

At 10k all you need is an oil change. You don’t need new wipers nor cabin filter replacement. I can see at 20k maybe.

I did my own service A, new oil, filter and plastic oil pan plug & o-ring. Used German oil Liqui Moly & OEM filter. All in less than $100. My local dealer takes the old oil for free. The hardest pat is re-setting the service A reminder

Yes, but the dealer is always going to test your knowlege regarding maintenance schedules, and sell you whatever he can. Can you really trust someone who stiffs you $679 for an oil change?

Unless Im reading it wrong - all they do on a Service A is an oil/filter change - everything else is "Inspect" so as a DIY'r if I walk around the car and dont see anything hanging then I guess Ive completed a complete Service A then right?

Service B just adds a brake fluid change (at 20k miles really?) and cabin filter in addition to the oil/filter change. Ive heard this runs around $1500!

You could also buy from FCPEURO the entire kit and return the old oil for a store credit (that said, I never did that but I heard other forum members doing).

Back then there was also lifetime warranty fluid change as well not sure if that is still a thing. So essentially oil changes were free.

I do my own A service every 5K miles, and in addition to the oil/filter change, fluid checks/top-offs and the inspections, I remove the engine air filters and cabin intake filter to vacuum them, run a test on the starter battery, run an OBD scan to check for DTCs that might not cause a CEL, and have the tires balanced and rotated at my tire dealer (no charge for this). And reset the service interval indicator, of course.

An earlier forum thread several weeks ago reported that a MB dealer refused to do the service interval reset because the guy only wanted an oil change and not the full A service.

I got it done for $237 or so with a coupon. "Full" Service A was also including 4 wheel alignment which I declined, with alignment and coupon it was coming close to ~$800 or something.

These dealership have to stop charging 250-$399 per hour for labor. There are very few making $50 an hour for pay and equals a quarter of someone's paycheck.
I recommend an import shop who specializes in Mercedes and can even show testimony from Benz owners of their service experience

Dealerships have large showrooms, cushy customer lounges and expansive service bays in venues where real estate is $$$. I agree hourly rates are crazy, but dealerships rely on service departments for profits, and $300/hour pays the rent. Small indy shops operate with less flashy overhead, and are the better value.

I totally get it and agree. Just not fair to working customers. I would not care if the customer lounge had school desks and bottled water. Mine has snacks, multi choice beverage machines, 85" tv's on the wall. Yes , its a nice lounge but rather see savings passed on to consumer.

Yes this is true it is also likely true that dealerships make more profit through service than selling a car.

As long as people are willing to pay those prices they will continue to charge them if not more in future.

Vote with your wallet and find a less expensive INDY.

Save the dealership for warranty and Recalls.

When I bought my GLC I signed up for the 40,000/4 yr prepay service. This means two As and two Bs. Cost was $2,030. Not sure if I would do it again, but I get wipers with every service, woo- hoo! At least it insures I am always covered with the warranty.
