Has anybody ever successfully used Express Service at a MB Dealer?

So this is funny. Just rolled over 5k miles in the S580, I'm going to change the oil every 5k to avoid the valve cover gasket issue I had with the S560. I don't want to go through the whole rigmarole of dropping it off and getting a loaner and waiting for them to get to it, etc. I don't want to use a quick lube place. But, some MB dealers have Express Service. No appointment, in and out in an hour...sounds great. This is on the website of the dealer:

So...I should be able to just show up, right? No appointment necessary right? In and out in an hour, right?

To make sure I called. "Oh no, you need to make an appointment for that". Okay...well when can they do it today? Clickity click click, we can do it tomorrow from 7:45-10:45. So...it will take 3 hours? Yes sir, it might be longer. So...the Express Service no appointment necessary in and out in an hour or less requires an appointment, and will take at least 3 hours? Yes sir. Click. Glad I called, had I driven out there I would have been pissed.

Has anybody ever actually had this express service done successfully?

That doesn't make sense, I mean if it is similar to the premier express we have in Canada, it is basically two technicians working on the vehicle at the same time. That however does require an appointment as well just that it is earlier than traditional appointments.

That was funny...but not in a good way

We've experienced the exact same thing an my local Toyota dealer. They used to be clients of mine many years ago. My first rule of advertising is to never advertise anything you either don't want to do or can't do. I've seen companies of all types do this time and time again to thier detriment.

So I called another dealer who offers it (my dealer I typically use does not) and they also require an appointment, but they could take me within an hour and promised it in an hour. It was 1h45m, but it wasn't terrible. $180 which I thought was very fair for an oil change at an MB dealer. I was surprised to see they uses 0W20 oil...

But that first dealer was just ridiculous lol

180 is only an oil and filter change right not a proper Service A?

Right, just the oil and filter change.

I tried 2 weeks ago, and brought with me rubber door trim peace part that my salesman shipped to my home address after I reported a missing piece, thinking I can install it myself. It was a bit too tricky, so I decided to bring it and stop by. Ended up being 1.5 hours wait, for something that literally took their tech 20-30 seconds (while the car was still parked in front of the SA drive through area). When I complained that it took too long for someone to just put the part on, I was told it's because I didn't have an appointment!
I mean... they don't even know how to lie when advertising things like these... no wonder I still prefer my daily Tesla ownership experience over anything - at least they come fix things right in my garage.

I made a dealer appointment regarding a minor recall fix requiring an hour's time about a year ago. I arrived and told the service rep I planned to wait. He said it was going to take 3 days. I got up and left -- think I was there maybe 8 minutes. Beat that for express service!

Right! I was like, its on your website! "NO APPOINTMENT REQUIRED" "WE'LL HAVE YOUR VEHICLE OUT THE DOOR WITHIN AN HOUR". How can they be shocked when I expect to be able to show up without an appointment and have my vehicle out the door within an hour?!?

This is the most frustrating thing to me about Mercedes vs Lexus where I came from. I have never owned a car where the dealers are slower at servicing it. I've owned a lot of cars too. With Lexus it needs a service, I would drop it off at 9, get a loaner and it would be done by 2:30-3:00. Every time. It only stayed overnight a handful of times and that was when they needed to order a part, etc. ONE time it was there for a week but they needed a headunit from japan and that was unusual.

Mercedes, had I dropped it off and gotten a loaner for that simple oil change they would have had it 3 days I guarantee it. I always turn on the valet protect and I know when they start it etc, and I watch it just sit there for days every time when I made an appointment weeks in advance. Once it sat there 5 business days and a whole weekend and they hadn't even moved it once, so I went back and got it and told them to call me when they could actually service the car. 2 week in advance appointment and they couldnt even start the work for 5 days after dropping it off. Ridiculous.

You'd think they would want their loaners back.

I had one recall in 5 years on my Lexus LX. The dealer is a day's drive, so I called and asked if the local Toyota dealer could do it. I was told no, but Lexus would send a flatbed truck to my home and pickup and deliver my LX to do a one hour repair. Or, they'd pay me mileage to drive there. MB is still trying to recover the $30 billion it lost on its Chrysler debacle. "The Best or Nothing"? Plan on the "nothing".

This is the dealer, not Lexus. Dealers are independent businesses and they are all run differently. I drove Lexus vehicles for 22 years and I watched the quality of their service slowly decline. MB service is slow, but when it comes to supporting customers and covering repairs and things like that I find them very similar, to slightly superior.

No, in this case it was Lexus corporate HQ customer service. They let me choose which dealership I wanted to drive to for the recall. The dealer handled the recall for which I made an appointment in 90 minutes. But dealerships are vastly different. One MB dealership in the Phoenix area has been accommodating. A couple others have been so bad I would never go back even to buy a part.
