GLC 63S E-Performance purchased

So I am going to duck for cover now as I know the 4 pot hybrid is frowned upon…but hear me out!

I have owned a previous GLC63S with the fire breathing V8 and currently have a Brabus tuned GLE53 so each car change I seem to be dropping 1000cc…

I was wandering around my favoured showroom and a gleaming white compact SUV caught my eye, I had been deliberating dropping down a size in vehicle as we also have a new GLA45s and for the area we live in I found it much more manageable in the tight roads, plus I like to change.

They gave me a C63Se for a two days and I was actually impressed, yes the V8 sound is a thing of the past and the noise upped in does seem artificial, but I thought I will embrace technology on this one. It was quick, very quick, the interior felt like a huge step up on the GLE which is probably as that is built in Alabama? I found this thing fun, the back end because of the electric owner meant on full throttle, it would skip the back out and it handled well.

I appreciate purists will dismiss this setu and I can appreciate why, I have owned the V8, but I have experienced that and wanted something different.

Sooo…I took the GLC63SE out for a day and it was in my view better. The ride was more compliant in gentle settings and I felt the body roll was not intrusive. The performance will still outstanding and as an all round daily, it ticked a lot of boxes.

On that basis, I take delivery of this Opalite White version on the 1 March!

I will update when I take delivery and give any further impressions if of any interest…

it comes fully loaded as they only come as a night premium plus. But it does have drivers assistance also.

Inside is the latest update so climatic seats and heated carbon steering wheel!

Wait how come you can't spec that, a conflict with another package? I didn't play around with the configurator too much admittedly.

It is not literally not available as an option,

I think the only AMG that has the option is the GLC43 midnight as standard.

Strange, I wonder why. So the 63 customers don't like darken out badges? What was MB thinking?

The C63SE carbon car I had did have them.

They are a shadow chrome as opposed to black so I would probably change them out to gloss black anyway

I see, I really don't understand why it isn't an option on the GLC then. Family SUVs don't need darken badges???

It is odd, much like the GLC63SE doesn’t have a carbon exterior pack but they offer it on a GLC43 setup 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Certainly makes you scratch your head, Is it perhaps an option in Europe then might be a MBUSA decision.

Do you know if you can turn on the steering wheel heater with a remote start function? And/or front seats?

The steering wheel heats with the drivers seat - it does have remote pre heat function, however the test drive car had didn’t have a heated steering wheel so I could not test

Congrats!

At the end of the day, as so many cars are "great" performance vehicles now, it's less about what capabilities the car has and more about the "soul" that it has. For many, the V8 has soul, whereas the others don't. At the same time, none of that really matters to an individual - the only thing that matters is what -you- feel the car has.

Is there a button for the steering wheel heating or it can only be activated if you turn on seat heating?

In my '22 GLC43 SUV, there is a short lever behind the turn-signal lever which controls the position of the steering wheel, and its tip can be rotated to turn the steering wheel heating on and off--you will see it briefly in your dashboard.

Thanks for your reply, that I understand but my understanding is the newer MBs (say W206, C236 and W214, X254 etc.) ditched this button altogether and steering wheel heating is only activated when seat heating is on but I do want to confirm if that is true.

pretty sure it’s activated via seat heating only

I see I wonder why MB no longer offers you an option to turn them on/off separately, what if you have sweaty hands and don't want steering wheel heating but want the seat to be warm (just for example). Although that is the minority I guess.

I guess that is called hyperhidrosis, it also affects the sensitivity of the capacitive touch apparently.
