Like I said I’m no expert but my Audi SQ5 also has Ceramic pads, oversize bakes and lots of dust. But it will stop on a dime...when we first got it my wife almost put me through the windshield several times. The 2018 Q5 has low dust but it’s stopping power isn’t very good. I’ve had one as a loaner when I took ours in for service.
I hate brake dust and agree with you....Mercedes give us low dust brakes! There must be a way besides the high dollar Porsche ones. My truck has 100M mile brakes and rotors- my Audi 30M. Unfortunately, Mercedes designed & sourced brakes long ago so all we can do is hope.
I dont know how there can be lots of dust with ceramic pads? As the rotors emit no dust. Maybe they only have a small amount of ceramic?
I was on the fence about E-ABC because of the $6,490 up charge compared to AIRMATIC ($1,610) but after seeing the price of ceramic brakes for the Porsche Cayenne, I thought why not try to add E-ABC to my build. My dealer called Distribution who said they'll call Germany on my behalf. It may be to late to change my build but no harm in trying.
Joe,
I keep thinking the same thing! I will hate myself if I don’t order it and find that it was really trick. It’s only money....good luck!

MB is WAY behind the curve here.
I don’t know but on the SQ5 you replace the Rotors and the Pad. Maybe some of what I see is metal from the Rotors. Just based on price there seems like a wide disparity in price of aftermarket Ceramics. There probably aren’t any rules governing what they can call Ceramic.

Ceramic pads contain copper fibers which along with the ceramic matrix will produce some "dust."
Thanks Ron, hopefully I'll get some good news but with only 39 days remaining until February, I'm not holding my breath.
During morning coffee I configured a Porsche Cayenne S (has little engine big power) and got close to 130M skipping a lot of options. No wonder Porsche is so profitable! Have you thought about calling your contact person? That might work better than the dealer going through the chain of command.

porsche has the highest gross profit of any marque

My dealer is great at handling such issues. When I called him to ask if he could still add E–ABC to my build, he called the contact person at distribution right away and made the request and we are now awaiting her reply. To this day he still cannot see my updated build when he accesses NetStar at the dealership. I find it odd MB still doesn’t have the bugs worked out in Netstar only weeks away from production start up for the US market.

My order hasn’t locked yet although some orders made 2 weeks later than mine locked a week ago. After your problem and others like Buddy..... have to wonder where all this is going. Without a MB Internet build for consumers we have no way to know or check our orders against a real DOG-not the temporary one out now. It can’t be that hard to modify the German DOG, convert to English and price. I’m almost certain that one item required in my build isn’t valid. Maybe the first week of January all will be clear!

A US-Configurator would be great for all who ordered or are contemplating ordering a GLE. Hopefully it's coming very soon.
All production 350 orders have PO# and spec sheet available from NetStar - production orders scheduled 2/20 are Red (this year more Pink really) locked down - production orders scheduled 2/21 or 3/1 still show Green today - may flip to Red/Pink lock down Weds/Thurs - I don't think there will be a Yellow warning for 2/21 or 3/1 when they flip .. .
The 2/21 orders are there because Vance thinks they can upside original end-February production..
Distribution can't normally "open" a locked down Red/Pink order - they can do two things - they can check if someone had a last-minute option cancellation on another order same production date for that same options - have to be real dang lucky - or distribution might be able to "switch" that rig with another rig the dealer has Yellow/Green (with new delivery date) - Distribution won't change slots between two dealers - dealers have to do that between themselves and switch PO#'s between then - then Distribution has to confirm that PO swap....

Did you mean 450? I think I get most of this...thank you by the way. Don't know what Vance refers to but assume its something to do with the internal production schedule!
Edit- Googled Vance & see thats the Towns name in Alabama near where the plant is located.
These wheels look nice, and slightly familiar...
O
I don’t know about the center cap size and offset but the bolt pattern is the same so they will fit MB. Probably the same supplier. I’m not a fan but they are a nice wheel design.
So is it confirm that if you choose AMG exterior package and E active body package you will have bigger front brake caliper and rotor set up ?
AMG exterior gets you drilled front rotors (don't think bigger) and better looking but mechanically the same calipers (see pic in #1745 above). Not confirmed by MBUSA yet, but I’m 98% certain the E-ABC package gets you larger drilled rotors and what look like fixed calipers (vs floating design). The giveaway in the US DOG is the requirement for 20”+ wheels with that option. See also my post #1500. This pic is w/o AMG Exterior, but with AMG wheels, so is undoubtedly Euro.
