I doubt it. NA market is usuall pretty consistent. Only 20s & 21s were optional in the preliminary info.

With AMG Line, yes, it appears so.

Would you pay an extra $4,800 for cooler brakes? Functionally I would only think that warranted if this were a track car or for extreme off road. Europeans have more choice, but almost everything is an option and the end result is they pay way more on average, even before the 19% VAT.

Can Gov't Shutdown Delay Deliveries of 2020 V167 GLe

Just saw this item on Autoweek and wondered if the 2020 V167 GLE has received the formal EPA approval.

January 18, 2019How the government shutdown could delay new vehicle launches
Remember, new cars need approval from the EPA, which is a government agency

MBUSA confirmed it will NOT be at the Philly Auto Show next month. All things considered probably a good that the first GLE 450 I see in the flesh will be mine.

Question

A question: My build comes to about $86k, and Iím not even getting the E-ABC. Anyone think thatís crazy? Is it too much money to spend on a non-AMG GLE? I understand, it is what it is, itís well optioned, itís a great car, etc. But I feel like Iím spending too much and should be exploring options like Porsche, Audi, etc. Just looking for additional thoughts...

The answer is Yes and No. I am over $82k without E-ABC and I assume that there will be a lot of depreciation for resale. Doubt we will get much extra vs a low $70k car. You will pay more for a Porsche but I donít know about resale. Porsche wonít be as comfortable or Luxurious but will drive like a dream. Audi can be had in that price range but wonít compare in options- the GLE will have more, the Audi some different ones. The GLE 53 might be a better decision but could be 6+ months out and will cost more yet. From what I observed the AMG line takes a big hit on resale too. A dealer order for inventory will probably rely on less options to keep the price down in the mid 70ís with some higher optioned ones depending on their market.
I think the decision rests with your situation. How long will you keep it?....the longer the less Iíd care about price. Do you want more performance and want to wait? Thereís probably no right answer but IMO get what you want so thereís no buyers remorse. At most the decision for more options may only make a few thousand difference over time. On the other hand I might not be in a position to give objective advice since.😏

I agree with most of Ron's comments. The longer you plan on keeping it, the less I think the initial cost is a concern. If you are flipping every 3 years, you take a hit, but just a little more than with a low option car; I keep mine a full model cycle. Within the options there are ways to be selective, but it's about what's important to you. E.g., I don't care about the autonomous driving features, I'm getting the Dinamica upholstery which I liked in a previous ML, and no metallic paint. This model iteration has gone up quite a bit, but it's right in line with an X5, for instance, and has a better powertrain and the option of the trick suspension (and no runflats!). My 2012 ML 350 was $66k 6 1/2 years ago and this one would be $77k if I got Airmatic instead of E-ABC. Tough choices!

With 450's easily pushing $85k-$90k, it appears if one wants a more reasonablely priced GLE you need to settle for the 350, but unfortunately it's now a 4 banger (not very fond of these). I spec'd out a new 19 BMW X5 with the six and it was $82 with m spec and exec etc, within direct striking distance of a similarly equipped 19 3.0 Q7 at $85k which is built in Europe and more expensive to produce. Seems like the US made suvs may no longer be the better bang for the buck.

I just priced them all out. I seem to come in striking distance with each make w/in a few dollars and option distinctions. But at the high end level, and option for option, they all seem to be priced the same as far as I can tell. I welcome a challenge to that statement, but I believe it to be accurate. I do believe you end up with a higher msrp w the gle but w options not available in competitors. Obviously this is all dependent on options chosen, and many are offered in packages on one model and not the other (ie 4 zone climate). Again, welcome thoughts and argument as I am currently trying to analyze/justify my decision as well. But I think for my purposes, someone who doesn't have the opportunity to performance drive and is looking for comfort, this is the right ride for me.

Government shutdown effect?

Someone posted here this afternoon about whether the shutdown of the EPA could have an impact on the GLE launch, then deleted the post. I think it's a reasonable question since certification is required. I would think that would be completed by now but it's a question.

Hi Greg,
My post # 1982 and my first post. regrettably it needed serious editing because of my inexperience. If you check it now I think the link to the Autoweek story will work. My build is scheduled for the 2nd week in February, so I asked my dealer about the story and his response was 'we'll just have to wait and see.' so I thought I'd ask the Forum.

Disappointed both exhaust ports on the rear fascia are fake. Again.

At least it is a deeper pocket than before.

Peek-a-boo, I see you. Exhaust pointing downward.

Fake Exhaust

Did you ever see/get a Canadian Dealer Order Guide? It could very well be that the Canadian Sport Package is different than the US AMG Line Exterior Package. The US package information clearly indicates the exhaust should be "functional."

Canadian preliminary order info:

The Canadian DOG isnít very detailed. Historically, the packages have always differed between our two markets. Heck, we even had the B-Klasse that the US never did, just as an example.

Hereís to hoping this was simply a pre-production model for display purposes and the production models have the functional exhausts. Itís not a deal breaker, obviously, just a minor irritant.

Unfortunately, I'll bet what you see is what you get. Maybe the aftermarket will have a fix. Or you can order the working outlets and have a muffler shop hook them up - should be pretty easy.

Personally, I don't get all the fuss over the exhaust tips. What difference does it make if the exhaust exits under the bumper or through the bumper? Is it simply because some feel it looks cool to see exhaust coming through the bumper? It's a family SUV, not a sports car. And I know my comments will get some of you all riled up but I just don't understand the fuss.

I donít like fakery. If there are outlets in the bumper they should function. My Ď12 exhaust exits downward but doesn't have fake outlets, which is a little better, but I think IC cars should have visible exhaust outlets. Thatís JMO.

It doesn’t bother me a lot but I understand the issue. A lot of inexpensive cars have real ones and these are FAKE. Fake diamonds, fake leather, fake exhausts aren’t in keeping with the Luxury image. Mercedes might help things by making a case for the change.

Toucheí. I like the Dinamica because it is warmer in Winter & cooler in Summer than leather. I would prefer leather surrounds to the MB-Tex. This is a choice driven partly by trying to exercise some cost control after getting the very expensive suspension. I have leather in both my current cars which I would still choose if cost were no object.
