Anyone know if it will be possible to enable the U21 dashcam option on a 2020 GLE 450 if you already have the necessary hardware (augmented video)? I'm hoping it's just flipping a switch in the software and the dealer can easily do it.

I asked a MBUSA manager about it and they said that it's not possible to retroactivate this feature right now on 2020 cars, but that there is a chance this may change in the future.
I'd like to believe it will eventually be possible, whether officially or through some type of mod.

That would seem correct unless there is also an an outlet for storage media.

I think you're mistaken on this one. Yes, Dashcam will be available on some '21 models as mentioned above, but I think you're mistaken the "Augmented Video" option.. with the "Dashcam". These are 2 different options. Augmented Video is available even on the previous model years, and it looks like it's also a prerequisite to get a Dashcam, but you still need to have a Dashcam option, which I don't think is available on any SUV, except GLA.

I was going by info that my SA gave me when I asked about the Camera. Checking you are correct it’s not 21U that I asked for. I have Augmented Video on my 450. Back to the drawing board.
It looks like someone has got dashcam working through a mod/hack, plus wireless Apple CarPlay. Adventurous users may want to see if he can help activate it for you.

When You see a hack like this does anyone wonder how talented someone must be to pull that off? Or maybe he works for a Vendor involved with a piece of MBUX.
His menu also shows a wired option so Apple must have fixed the either wired or wireless (not both) that I read was an issue in the past. That’s the way it should be, IMO. I’ve been using the MB voice options most of the time now for text & phone calls. I wish the Nav was better but it’s not terrible. If I hadn’t used Android Auto/Waze I might think the embedded Nav was great.
Here’s an article....Well, while we can only speculate here at MBZMaster.com, it looks like the dashcam was in hiding due to some unexplained legal issues. While it’s perfectly legal to use a dash cam inside the vehicle in the United States, it actually carries a very little weight in the court of law. There are too many Speilbergs, Tarantinos and whole lot of small -time video producers who can easily alter your dash cam footage into something completely different than what really happened, and then go figure!
However at the same time, the video recording inside your car can be helpful if it aligns with all other aspects of the legal case! Sometimes the recording can be useful for some other needs than just the recording of an actual accident, but sometimes not. Make sure NOT to get a dash cam if, for example, you are going to cheat on your wife or maybe husband! Definitely that video recording is not going to help you at all!
So starting with some 2021 models, Mercedes will roll out the Dashcam as an optional equipment. For people who don’t know, Dashcam stands for: “Dashboard Camera”, which you can use to video record your driving, and what’s going on around you. Some initial models to include the Dashcam – (21U) option are 2021 Mercedes E-Class, A-Class, CLA-Class, GLA-Class and GLB-Class. Probably some other models will follow in 2022.
At the time of the writing of this article, we assume that in order to get this Dashcam, you would need the “Augmented Video” for Navigation – (U19) option as a requirement. Simply because Augmented Video already incorporates the front camera, and it would be crazy not to use it! Then the footage can be saved apparently either via an internal hard drive (HDD) or simply via an external USB stick.
What is Mercedes Augmented Video for Navigation?
Instead of using the simple map on the Navigation display like every other car, MBUX uses this feature to display the real road in front of you, by using the front dashcam camera. Then MBUX uses it’s Navigation animation overlay layer to display the guidance! How cool is that? We will discuss this feature in more detail, in our upcoming article.
Now the fun part begins here: In order to get “Augmented Video” you must get “Multimedia Package” – (DA5), which is part of it. And in order to get the Multimedia Package, you have to get the “Premium Package” – (DP1) for a reason that you need to have two 10.25″ display screens. Thank you Mercedes – for being so complicated!

Any suggestions for a dashcam (front/rear) with ios app for the new 2020 gle 350?
is a shame that with this great front and reverse camera already in the car, MB didnt think of adding recording capabilities while driving or when parked, maybe when the car gets a refresher it will be an option.
I got me a X Motion L30 dashcam but there is not wi-fi option and theres no ios or android app for it. So i might be changing it if something better comes up, Link below, had it installed for $400 at a shop by my house,
70mai is actually built by Xiaomi. I have friends that have other 70mai models and they are pretty happy with them. Probably this one will also be good.
Just left my dealer in FL.....had him configure a 2021 GLS 450 and a 2021 GLE 53. The GLS allowed option 21U-Dashcam, but the GLE had no such option. So it looks like the new GLS will have it activated but not the new GLE.
Maybe the attorneys will allow the GLE's and others with the hardware to activate sometime soon?

There’s a good chance that 21U is just software if you have the U19 Camera option. There may be some reason they are slow to add the GLE series. I can think of a few things-might be a subtle difference in the MBUX version requiring a modification-might want to roll it out slower in case there are problems-might want to add documentation first. Whatever the reason hopefully we can add it later. Thanks for the update....I was going to check again Monday.
