This sounds like it is going into limp mode. When you shut it off it resets. I had to drive to the dealer with this issue on my old w166 and not shut it off for the dealer to finally see the problem because there was no check eng light or codes in the computer after the reset. Very inconvenient.
We are having the same problem with our 2020 GLE 350. Was this ever resolved?

My problem is not going to be the same problem as it was on a diesel ML350, codes were about the DPF etc. and it was never resolved for me so I traded it in.
AC compressor making strange high pitched buzzing noise. I could only hear the noise when outside the car, and the noise would get louder as time went on and also car appeared to cool fine. After 1 week I took to dealer and he diagnosed as compressor failure imminent.. Dealer informed me that the AC compressor also used for cooling to the charger 48v motor attached to the rear side of engine-so if the compressor failed, the engine would also not run. Compressor replaced under warranty (New GLE 450 Sep2020 with 2000 miles)) after 2 days (parts delay) and all good. Very hard to diagnose since noise from engine area, but the high pitched buzzing/rattle noise reminded me of a water pump bearing going bad. Glad I fixed the problem as eventually I would be stuck on the road. Dealer also said he has replaced several of the compressors associated with the 450 engine (unique 48v system and no accessory belts), so issue might be a class problem
1. Airmatic had disgusting bouncy effect. I do not know why nobody says about it.
2. Airmatic Suspension is very bad on bad roads, has much noise, compared to BMW X5 air suspension (it’s awasome and silent on run flat tires !!!).
3. GLE 450 can not ride smooth due to issues with EQ Boost.
4. Due to “jelly” airmatic i feel kicks of eq boost much more...
5. Parking sensors have false positives
I can say more. But i think it’s enough. Because as for me these issues are disgusting.
My advice - do not buy this car. I feel deceived and want my money back
p.s. But i like how it looks and i love the interrior.

Igor, it isn't the GLE it is your GLE, air suspension is brilliant and in 6000 miles I have NEVER noticed the EQ boost, it is seamless, visit your garage.

Me too! I did find the air better to my liking in Sport mode but that’s a choice...not an issue. The EQ adds the smoothest performance of any other turbo. There’s a lot of additional acceleration available by building boost faster like Audi and BMW but the Mercedes is smooth yet powerful.

Unfortunately or no, but it’s not only mine GLE issues. I speak with people who bought this car with or without airmatic, who have 300d/350d/450 engines. ALL these people have bad experience with new gle. Downshift issues while breaking on 450 version, jerky transmission with 300/350d engines. Believe me, it’s not only my opinion. As for airmatic I think you have ideal roads.
Guys, i spoke with owners of these “brilliant” cars, we have up to 5 cars in our underground parking. People are not satisfied at all. I spoke with other people on russian forums, they mention same issues. And i have all these issues. Sorry, but i can not recommend this car. Waste of money when you will decide to sell it due to described issues with main parts of this car: engine and transmission, and airmatic that is good only for ideal roads (and people also mention that springs are also very bad). I had GLE 250d, it had very noisy engine, but the noise was the only problem i had. It had ideal suspension based on springs (i also drove this car with airmatic, it was beautiful), very good transmission, and had no problems while braking. V167 is a big step back, unfortunately.
I can not recommend to buy other brands, but i know that i will never recommend anyone to buy MB.

Are you talking about a GLE450? 2020 or newer model year? Maybe you could put your location and car in your signature so we can better help you.
I find the new GLE450 to be superior to our previous ML350 diesel, in all the ways you mentioned that are worse with your car (model?). And we hardly have any "smooth roads" nearby. It's funny, though, that our '10 diesel was much better than our '14, which was too soft and not as much fun to drive (both steel springs). So the 2020 model is a positive step forward, IMO.
Somehow, despite your driving many other V167 airmatics, it sounds like there's something wrong with your particular specimen. Have you queried your Dealer?
Another Russian disinformation campaign? Caveat, I have E-ABC which does not suffer from said suspension issues. EQ Boost is superb and seamless. Only one software issue over a year go and rock solid since.

I’m from Ukraine. And I can provide information about my car and VIN. I have GLE 450. My dealer replaced twice some parts of my gearbox (valve body), 3 times they tried to do gearbox adaptation or something like that. If MB has quality department they can investigate this problem by searching information with customer response on forums too. And my dealer confirmed that gle 450 has issue with eq boost and they hope that software update will fix it. But I bought the car 1+ year ago and was very disapointed

And do not compare Airmatic and E-ABC please. Different suspensions

Tomorrow they will check rear shocks, because it takes 2-3 seconds to stop bounce when i drive through small hills with rear wheels. But i had this issue from the beginning and i do not think the issue based on shocks, i think it based on stupid airmatic software for ADS shocks. Car is trying to be like a boat but it needs to be a car. And i have tired to solve the issue with eq boost. I wrote about it one post early. You need to have much time having V167, or a private driver to carry this car to dealer to fix all these issues
While I don't share the same experience in regards to the suspension (I think Airmatic is well balanced on such a heavy vehicle), I get what Igor means in regards to the smoothness of the EQ Boost.
There is a solid kick in the downshift pattern, especially between 3rd down to 2nd gear - which impacts the smoothness and comfort you'd expect from this vehicle.
Guess I was lucky because mine didn’t have the downshift kick and was at almost 15,000 miles when I sold it.
As I said before I drove in Sport Mode or “I” Mode with the Suspension set in “S” to get rid of the Bouncy feeling. I set “I’ Mode to all comfort except for my suspension in “S” for the ride that I liked for most of my drives. I’m hoping that the GLE 53 comes with a little firmer ride. Some people probably like the soft suspension so there are choices. My complaint is the fact that you need to select “I“ Mode each time you start the car. Also, larger wheels with less tire sidewall will make the ride harsher as will higher air pressure. The tire is a small part of the ride quality. I had 20’s on my GLE 450 and will see how the 21’s compare soon, if my car builds as scheduled.
Igor have you tried the stiffer suspension setting?
Edit: There was a user that reported a fix that affected shifting...might have been an exhaust sensor.

Thank you for your feedback. I have tried “I” mode with suspension to sport and other options in comfort, but it is still is very bouncy compared to previous GLE 166 with airmatic. But the suspension also is not so comfortable on bad roads and this means that changing wheels from 20 to 21 can make other issues with driving comfort. Today i drove Auidi Q8, i think it’s the best air suspension, then BMW x5/x7 and MB v167 has the worst airmatic for me, with bad balance for not ideal roads. And as for exhaust sensor, it was me. Mb dealer did some adaptations and i had no issues for some days, now i have again, not often but this issue still exists.
Never Buy A New Car Or A Car In Its First Year Of Redesign
or perhaps expect that development is complete at time of launch and customers aren’t fee paying test pilots.
My car actually has chalk pen written notes and alignment marks all over the engine bay. When a wheel arch trim finisher fell off the same notes existed behind the adhesive tape handwritten part numbers!!
I tease colleagues that I have a hand built Mercedes, but really I guess the joke is on me.
Never Buy A New Car Or A Car In Its First Year Of Redesign
I've had very first of my last 7 cars, BMW and Mercedes. Have there been issues? Yes, but nothing not taken care of, and things still crop up in later years of production.
I thought I was getting new seats, but according to the rep at the dealership, it's a new leather cover to replace the current ones. I wanted new seats instead of the replacement leather seats cover because I know how things will turn out and I was right.
Because of the Pandemic, it took them a while to get the new leather seats cover for my GLE450. I dropped off my car 2 weeks ago and picked up my car today and I was very disappointed. The rep was trying to convince me it's how it is with the massage seats, trying
to make every excuse in the book. I guess I will have to contact Mercedes or write a letter to the CEO for Rallye Motors Mercedes. My family has been driving Mercedes for 50 years and I never have seen such bad craftmanship on the seats of a Mercedes. I will
take pictures tomorrow and upload them.

Here's are the picture on my GLE450
The car been in the service department for 2 weeks to fix the seats.
Doesn't really look any better than before, very disappointed.
I never seen such ****ty craftsmanship on a Mercedes seats.
im a long term loyal Mercedes customer too but this GLE ownership experience has been enough for me. Mercedes and their “The best or nothing” has become pure marketing BS.
a business has to live up to promises and expectations. If it doesn’t, customers will move on, irrespective of previous brand loyalty.
the likes of Hyundai, Genesis and Kia, will start to serve Mercedes their *** on a plate.
