MBUX Update Fresh Update 2 (FUP2)

So I managed to get Mercedes to update my MBUX to Fresh Update 2 (aka FUP2) to hopefully solve an issue when all I would get is a black screen on starting the car in the morning.

For those wanting to do the same - be aware that it takes over 4 hours for the dealership to apply it.

So far, there don't appear to be any downsides to having had the update done. The addition of the Mercedes Me Store is a welcome addition. The voices have changed slightly in response to "Hey Mercedes" but can't put a finger on how exactly - perhaps slightly deeper in tone? Everything else works just like before.

Hopefully the random 'black screen' will be fixed as well .. time will tell!

The updated version has a "Software Version" menu inside the System menu, and it now shows the version.

As far as i'm aware, ex-factory, cars came with FUP0 that did not show the version number, and there have been two updates, FUP1 and FUP2, both of which now have a visible version number in the menus.

If you can't see your version number in the System menu, then it's likely you've got FUP0

Mostly from the German car forums - especially those for the A class, which shares the MBUX platform and is several months 'ahead' of the GLE in terms of bug fixes, issues, versions, and so on. Google Translate really helps with those sites :-)

We got our car delivered in mid Sep and it came with FUP2 update. Are there any new ones to be had?

Not that I’m aware of, I see no upcoming dates for FUP3, at least not yet.

My GLE is still with the dealer, but service rep called and said they were installing both updates - hopefully picking it up tomorrow after they address some other items.

can you post a photo of the Store? I’m interested in any addon feature available to GLE.

I had FUP2 installed on my GLE this week as well - some of the menus are a little different, however carplay seems to load a little slower than before.

Carplay is also not full screen (full 12 in display) - seems to be same size as before, using about 70% of the screen?

Yup, latest iOS. Unless i'm missing some menu option on my phone or the car, its definitely not full 12in screen carplay.

If you have full screen carplay, or anyone for that matter, can you take a pic?

I haven't seen full screen carplay yet either with iOS 13 so hopefully this update will support it...

.. but my question is where are the OTA updates? I thought one of the key features of MBUX was it would update over the air rather than requiring a trip to the dealer.

Most Dealers have an SA or other person familiar with Tech features, you might ask yours. My SA plugged his phone into my car and it displayed full screen in Car Play. This was 6-8 weeks ago! But Android Auto isn’t FS even though the phone supports it.

Have you tried enabling Developer Mode in Android auto and playing with the resolution settings? I'm traveling now so can't try it myself, but:

1- In the Android Auto App, go to the Menu -> Settings and make sure "Try the New Android Auto" (first menu option) is selected.
2- Still in Settings, scroll all the way down until you see "Version", and click that row 10 times.
3- After Developer Mode is activated, click on the 3 dots on the top right and select "Developer settings"
4- Near the bottom, there's a "Video Resolution" option where you can try various options.

Not sure if any of them will work, but worth a try...

Thanks for the info. I didn’t try the developer settings but will. It looks to me like MBUX is not allowing full screen. Dealer Shop Forman said likely update in the future.

Just a thought but it may be related to Screen Resolution output by the phone. Here’s an article I found relative to AA.

Hey @Ron.s are you talking about Apple CarPlay or Android Auto? I see that you are using both in your topics, just making sure we are discussing the same thing.

Car Play was showing full screen but I have a Pixel 3 & can’t get full screen with it. I posted the info on screen resolution because it may be common to both.

Great suggestion-there is one step after getting into Developer mode and that’s to hit settings (3 dots) upper right again. Then there are more options. I’ll try 1080p and see what happens. Mine was set at let the car and phone negotiate video.
Edit: put that wrong above. I didn’t need to tap 10 for Developer, just hit the 3 dots and selected that option (developer) but nothing changed with any of the video settings. I can see that MBUX is only releasing the small screen with other icons in the rest of the screen. Also my center console touch pad doesn’t work with AA so looks like I have to wait for a TSB. Will file with CS but doubt that will do any good.
